I know SF is more than a storage-related website, but the line has to be drawn somewhere when combining love and storage:

Nerds Have a Much Bigger Hard Drive
Not only do nerds take the time to listen to their partners, but they also mentally take notes, remember and are able to retrieve the information at the most opportune moments. The best way to make your partner feel sexy, sensual, wanted and larger than life is to listen to him or her. Because most of the world rarely gives you its devoted attention, imagine how special you’ll feel when one individual does.

I was going to say, thank you, Groltz because your picture is now my desktop background (what do you call that again?)

It is a good color to have on the PC, quite cheery, light and peaceful.

I agree. It's lovely. Reminds me of where I grew up. There was a large picture window that looked out over a cornfield that stretched to the horizon. I saw beautiful sunsets like that all the time.

It's a little robot built into a cooler (an igloo cooler) that can mix 5000 different drinks from a stock of 16 alcoholic beverages.

As much as I like Firefox, I believe that adding a little substance to this teletubbies-like advertisement wouldn't hurt. There are very compelling reasons why to use Firefox and that's why it has been my favorite browser for some time now, but none are featured in the above video.

My reasons to use Firefox are because it is very stable and quite secure compared to IE. The former is particularly important to me (and one of the major issue I still have with Opera, although it is much better than it was a few years ago). Since I need to change my computer case every time my computer crashes, using stable softwares is paramount.

Someone else sent me that video and I really didn't think it was funny.

It takes more than an icon yelling wheee to make me laugh.

I like humor with substance or at least a high level of cynicism and sarcasm.

He's a negative sod, but I wish the Bartender would come back. It's like a fantasy come true, but it just isn't the same serving your own drinks. It's like being at home . . . blah . . . could someone see if they could find find the old git?

Wow... HP actually are in tune with what corporate tech support staff are thinking. Although would it have been too much to ask for them to show what sort of caliber, or how many shots we would need?

You would need two, delvered at nearly the same angle and height and less than 4 feet (~1.5m) apart. Yes, I actually read the article.

The XP12000 Disk Array has physically redundant hardware components that are located in separate
areas in the array. The redundant circuit cards are located in front and back pairs when the array is
viewed from the side. Each circuit card plugged into a slot in the front of the array has a redundant
“paired” circuit card plugged into the back of the array. The path of the bullet through the array
penetrated all circuit cards plugged into the front of the array. None of the circuit cards in the back of
the array were physically impacted.

So a single bullet in the front and out the back would do it, too

They shot the rack in the side and the bullet passed through both sides of the case, one set of cards and through an aquarium. (Can you feel the drama?)

The other set of cards is more to the rear of the rack on the other side of the drvie array.

At the risk of over analysing I suspect a shot could be delivered at an anlge that took out both sets of cards. Using a hollow point or balistic tip projectile could also work as it would fragment on impact potentially causing much wider spread damage, a shotgun would probably also do the trick loaded with buckshot or maybe a solid slug. Obviously an fragmentation or incindiary grenade or almost any automatic weapon would be a no brainer for sucess...

My complaint is that HP didn't explore any of these options... I know if I were out to take out a HP server I'd hardly give up after putting a single .308 round through it... If they really want the test to be meaningful they should have a version that stands up to a 3 minute concerted assault. That might at least run a disgruntled employee out of ammo or give security time to respond...

I have to fault their total failure to examine the dangers of Improvised Explosive Devices on their server products. I mean, when I'm pissed at a server I'm not usually thinking "handgun", but rather "I wonder what I could do with a 220V connection, and a few gallons of gasoline."

A more common thought at my workplace is to go with a rental truck chock full of fertiliser and diesel... All of the servers we work on are at customer sites in Sydney though so a bit more planning is in order given the drive (And the dificulty of getting several tons of home made explosives into your luggage on most flights).
