Okay so I'm getting tired of waiting for 3520A retail.
Only problem I have with buying OEM is the lack of burning software.
I have Nero but it is OEM for use with my Verbatim(Liteon) drive.
And I'm donating this drive to my mom so along goes the nero that works with it.
So Roxio Easy CD...
Well I found an article that is exactly my problem:
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/885464
Unfortunately they say Windows XP only and even after contacting MS support they still think it is XP only.
I went through round one with MS support but round two seems daunting.
So I decided firewire in...
This site
http://www.bustrace.com/products/delayedwrite.htm
appears highly relevant.
It appears the firewire implementation in windows is mostly a POS.
Well USB works just fine.
So at this point I know it is something firewire.
Where can I get a good cable, relatively inexpensive?
I looked at granite digital and they want almost as much as the whole enclosure cost me.
I knew I should have took pictures of the chips on the board on the...
Well I tried the USB port and it seems to be working fine. (backup is proceeding slowly)
I'm going to try the firewire port on another computer tomorrow to see what is up with that.

So I have a Seagate Barracuda 7200.7 160GB.
And an enclosure with firewire 400 and usb 2.0 ports.
I'm using the firewire 400 as I only have USB 1...
Got it today, installed it with the Seagate 7200.7 160GB drive from Best Buy for $80 after rebate. All told it was $120 to obtain a USB 2.0/firewire 400 external drive.
It literally snaps together and not that well I might add.
As it is a 5.25" enclosure there is lots of air room in there over...
I don't have that model but my netgear and those I installed are working without issue. I've got the MR814v2.
If anything bad, I can say that netgear probably releases their products too earlier and fixes stuff in later revisions. But their later revisions seems to be work fine.
I had this happen to me a couple of months ago.
Very frustrating.
It died down after a few days and lasted at most a week.
I tried to track down the source IP from the messages and reported it to abuse@thatdomain.
Getting a cat in a cat carrier through the door... haha ... rookie.
You need a cat carrier where the top comes off.
You trick them into curling up into the cat carrier (an old piece of my clothing generally works. Then BAM put the top on quick. Make sure to practice and not catch the cat's tail.
I e-mailed pcmicrostore and will let you all know how it turns out.
They have two (1 & 2) models are virtually identical except one claims to have the oxford 911 chipset and Ali for the USB 2.0.
There must be like one or two actual enclosure companies because that looks awfully close to the bytecc model. I can't find the chipset information on the store site though.
http://www.pcmicrostore.com/PartDetail.aspx?q=p:10502069&kbid=1008
is the page for the triumph
It says oxford 911 for firewire and ali for usb 2.
The manufacturer page is either this one or this one. Neither seems to have information on the chipsets.
That triumph looks good. And it is only $39 with shipping. I'll have to google to see if anybody has had issues with it.
I've googled on the compusa one and seems there are two different ones, one with upgradeable firmware and one without.
I was considering the bytecc ME-320U2F. Saw it at...
I see this deal on a 160GB seagate drive at best buy for $80 After Rebate. So I figure great, just use it for backup with an external enclosure. So I read through the SF threads and check out the enclosures... all like $100 or more. Is this the cost for enclosures? I just need one to do...
Also found this thread.
Where the NEC 3500 was recommended.
The one reviewed at CDRLabs.com came with Ulead MovieFactory v3.5 which Merc recommended.
Sounds good so far. But newegg has both the 3500A and 3520A. So I figure the 3520A is the one to go with. But there seems to be models with and...
I'm now in the market for a DVD burner (woohoo Christmas money!)
I know merc said Liteon in this thread:

I'm looking for < $100 US.
Quality much more important than speed.
Especially reading CD/DVDs.
Obviously I don't want coasters so...
I don't recommend AVG if you are on dial-up or don't leave your computer on. It doesn't update automagically except at the specified time you set. It was quite annoying to have installed it for other people then return months later to find it horribly out of date.
I like the automatic paper dispensers. It is great that I don't have to touch it with wet hands.
I mostly like the automatic flush and don't even mind the flushing more than necessary that usually happens.
But the automatics taps drive me bonkers.
There are the ones activated by the closeness...
Yes, I know and thought of this immediately _after_ posting. But generally the word has the connotation of external sexual organs and I'm sure everybody knew what I meant. That is that they will grow a penis & testicles so that they too can be infected.
Also you probably were just poking fun...
NOD32 http://www.eset.com
It has won more virus bulletin awards than any other AV.
It costs real money, $39 first time, $27.30 each year thereafter.
It is not a resource hog like norton or mcafee.
Buy it now, don't listen to anybody else.
One of the 'secrets' of retail stores is they have a shrink wrap machine in the back. So used stuff will get placed back on the shelves. It was only a matter of time before online stores started doing this. It does suck though.
See Cobra Chi's message over at SR here.
Apparently SP2 alone doesn't fix the problem but a certain combination of tools does indeed solve the problem.
