    Wireless Purchase Advice b/g

I have a netgear MR814v2 which is b only and doesn't support WPA. Works great for me. I plugged it in months ago and never really had to do anything to it since. I think I updated the firmware once, but only because I wanted to not because there was any problem. I have it hooked up to the...

The only things you haven't tried: Swap the power supply for a higher power one. Swap the motherboard type (so the IDE chipset changes to say an intel based one).

    Wish me luck

Being thankful does not require one to be religious or believe in God (which are separate things entirely but let us not get off topic), only to have something to be thankful for, which you now seem to have. And it is a nice bonding type tradition in 'family' situations. It is all about...

    Netzero (arg) and Firefox

There are plenty of dial-up ISPs that are as cheap as netzero. I used to use joi internet and was very pleased. It was $9.95/month if you are paying monthly (which I did) but it can be as cheap as $6.49/month if you pay for 12 months at a time.

    Firefox 1.0

You can safely use FF even without an installer. It is available in a zip package that you can unzip and then run. The registry changes it makes if you make it the default browser are easily undone by IE. But I have doubts that you'll want to go back.

    Weird File transfer error message.

I think this is a difference between NTFS and FAT32. NTFS can have extra data streams associated with the file. FAT32 can't.

    CD Writer Problems

CD-RW drives are cheap. You can find a liteon one for probably less than $20. I wouldn't waste time trying to diagnose the drive but spend $20 and almost absolutely* ensure the problem gets fixed. * It could of course be not the drive itself but maybe the power supply or cable. ANd you could...

    Switching to VoIP service

Finally found the page on broadband reports that lists all the VoIP providers. Then I stumbled upon BroadVoice. And I said holy crap! Switching to VoIP service

It seems that packet8 and vonage are the two senior members of the VoIP crew. They have the most kinks worked out. But people complain about the codec used by packet8. So I looked and saw a relative newcomer, Broadvoxdirect. They allow you to select the codec but seem to be working out kinks.

    Switching to VoIP service

Okay the wife gave the go ahead, but she wants the higher priced ones because she thinks the sound quality will be better. So I'm considering vonage or voicepulse, for the unlimited calling (my wife makes/receives a lot of calls) but sound quality and QOS is a priority. So will I have to change...

    Switching to VoIP service

I'm seriously considering it and would like to know what your bill looks like. I have a $40 unlimited plan through IDT. But after taxes and fees it is just under $60. That's $20 worth of crap on a $40 bill! I'm looking to reduce that. Some people over at fat wallet recommended packet8.
