    Athlon II 170u? Webcam?

A quick google shows the Athlon II 170u to be equivalent to the old "Athlon 64 3800+" cpu, but runs in under 20W TDP. Not fantastic, but should be better than any atom providing single threaded applications. http://www.cpubenchmark.net/cpu_lookup.php?cpu=AMD+Athlon+II+170u And yes, that...

Got it solved. I basically create a dummy signal handler for SIGUSR1 in Thread A, and signal thread A with SIGUSR1. Since I'm handling the signal, accept() will be interrupted, but the default action won't take place.

Assignment criteria says that all threads must exit cleanly, and not be killed... I've currently got 1 thread accept()ing, and 30 threads in a thread pool which take the connections as needed. (which is how it mst be done in accordance with the assignment specification). Basically: Thread A...

Not anything that matters to a normal consumer whose always lived with single socket systems. What the extra $$$ gets you: 1. Dual/quad socket installations. 2. Reg ECC RAM Support. 3. Additional validation at the factory (so they are less likely to develop faults). And in some instances: 4...

Actually I don't see this being enforced too hard... Big corpoare buy 10Ks of boxes from OEM and want to install their own Win7 image... and they can't do that. Big corporate changes OEMs... As I said, not going to be enforced too hard. (At most, just go into the BIOS, and disable it).

That was the whole purpose of the CIL and CLR with .NET. (Apps written against .NET are compiled to bytecode like Java, and the CIL compiler compiles it to native code at runtime - hence why for most .NET apps you get a severe lag when starting them for the first time). Any app written with C#...

You're correct, AMD introduced the IMC with the original Athlon64 and Opteron (Clawhammer and Sledgehammer CPUs) back in 2003. I've never seen just the IMC fail, it's always been the entire CPU fail. Mind you, if the IMC is flakey, the internal POST (within the CPU) should have picked that one up.
