I do want to buy a used car

Just a fail in CA. I've been driving it like this for a year (~20k miles)

I do want to buy a used car

If resolving the check engine light required anything less than a full engine tear-down I'd have done it and not be buying a car at all. It will be due for its first California Smog Inspection within the month and a CEL is an instant fail. Cleaning the car is easy enough; I have all the stuff...

I do want to buy a used car

The time has come for me to start considering a new car. Used Model S prices aren't low enough, and the Model 3 isn't due out for a while. As a temporary vehicle, I'll be negotiating for this one tomorrow and the next day. We'll see if they'll take my beater as a trade-in. If anyone wants to...

    Home networking question

Around here, unless you specify otherwise and pay a premium, the WAN port on your router gets assigned an address from a pool managed by your ISP via DHCP. Exactly the same as a DHCP pool on your local network. If this is the case for both of your internet connections than simply swapping the...

HTPC upgrade? New mobo + CPU + RAM only

One of the things I noticed with my 1080 (and Titan X for that matter) is that the back plate gets hot regardless of fan speed or even water cooling. I was able to get my temps significantly lower by mounting a large heatsink to the back of them and directing case airflow across. You may get...

    Home networking question

Do either of your internet connections have a static IP? If they are both DHCP, I'd just have both WAN cables labeled and sitting next to "Buffalo Master". Plug the appropriate one in and leave the rest alone.

    Citibank really, really, really sucks!!!

BofA lets me set up auto pay with limits, I have mine set to not pay and alert me if: 1. More than one is attempted per month 2. The bill is more than 20% over the average for that bill. 3. The bill is over a hard limit I've set. Never had the issues ya'll talk about.

    Citibank really, really, really sucks!!!

Bank of America allows everything to be electronic, and their mobile app is decent. I'm not 100% happy, but it seems to be a better alternative. Fidelity, not so much. But I am happy with the trading fees.

    Citibank really, really, really sucks!!!

Someone else changing the address is the first step in many hack/fraud schemes. Even if you feel fraud is unlikely, I imagine their fraud department is more responsive.

Nope. It likely won't draw more than 350W in non-synthetic stuff, I'd be comfortable with a 500W PSU.

$5 might be much, $2/gas seems pretty reasonable to me. It is regressive, which is why I mentioned the gas-guzzler tax as an alternative.

    Tesla doomed

Drivers of excessively large vehicles aren't being held accountable. Example: Miata vs. Suburban. Accident easily kills Miata driver. Had the other vehicle been smaller, a fatality would have been way less likely. Regardless of who is at fault for the accident, at least some of the...

This sounds like a fairly straightforward prisoner's dilemma problem, where each persons best interest is against that of the community as a whole. Other places seem to have sorted it out with financial incentives (registration costs tied to engine displacement, for example). We could do the...

Agreed. Swap the 1080 for a Quadro P6000 and you have a fairly epic workstation that would more easily justify the CPU. I suspect he just had it laying around.

No electric version yet, probably 4 years out. But much less than 5000lbs and safer than most. Designing a car intelligently can lead to much better crash outcomes than just throwing weight at it. Clocker could probably contribute more on this.

HTPC upgrade? New mobo + CPU + RAM only

I've been really happy with the build quality of Corsair cases so far, and I always swap the fans. Have you considered relocating the tower? It might be easier than designing it to be quiet. Up to now I've had the rack in the living room with a full water cooling rig, but am relocating it to...

    Laptops with large 1080P displays?

This system does not exclude ride sharing. In my experience with buses in cities, they are either too full or too empty most of the time. This can be resolved by dynamically changing the size of vehicle and frequency of service based on real-time demand. The other challenge with scheduled...

    Tesla doomed

I wasn't arguing that shared transportation would die out, but that scheduled routes and vehicles seating 25+ would. An app similar to Uber connected to a serious database could offer the best of all the options, both in terms of cost and efficiency. 1. It knows where you are 2. You tell it...
