    OwnCloud

When I was doing IT for Dolby Labs (~2000?) I realized that most of the local disk space issues were MP3s. My solution to this was to grab one of our decommissioned servers, fill it with old hard drives and create a share on it. The disk space issue was immediately solved. Within a couple months...

SSDs - State of the Product?

Indeed. My lesson there was to just carry enough CF and SD cards to cover the trip. Even if I copy them off to a laptop I try to leave the cards full and just set them aside until I get home and things calm down.

SSDs - State of the Product?

Nope. The venue had a nice place for pictures, and some of the guests were only there for the day. As such, we scheduled group photos and a quick shoot with my wife and I for an hour before the ceremony. The photog (friend of my wife but still a "pro" - charges money and not his first wedding)...

SSDs - State of the Product?

The last time I saw one of those was when our wedding photog accidentally formatted all his cards after the shoot and before the ceremony.

Exactly this. When my $200/hour accountant warned me that his patent attorney wasn't cheap I knew I was in trouble. My first goal is to get as much understanding as possible and assemble all the necessary information. From what I've head this can be non-trivial.

Yup. Just signed up for 250mb/s, now that my modem can handle it. The local 1Gbps fiber I was going to route in is running into LoS issues that will take some time to resolve.

    Windows 10

Random Win10 glitch. I'm going through this stack of MS Surface books and ran into one that, on first startup after unpacking, went straight to a user prompt without any username being offered. Multiple reboots did the same. Thinking that this was either a corrupted install or a used unit, I...

I use my cell phone as my alarm clock (actually as my only clock). The time is very accurate (even auto-corrects for daylight savings and time zones), the battery backup can last all night, and I test it daily. No other solution that is nearly as effective.

Even the smallest of the batteries we've linked will manage a full day, they at least double battery capacity. LG G4 ships with 2.9Ah. Even assuming a 50% loss from self-discharge and conversion (way pessimistic), anything larger than their tiniest will get you there.

Running GPS on a phone significantly increases the power consumption of the device. You might need one of these external batteries to get through a day (assuming you can recharge everything at night). I haven't done GPS tagging, so just to confirm your requirements, you need the phone to use...

The pros don't do this kind of thing, as there is no practical or commercial application. There are very few more powerful LEDs, you are quickly approaching scanning laser levels of power. I can pump 48v into this and power PoE devices. This switch runs off PoE. This should let me pull 48v out of the PoE to power non-PoE devices that can take 48v (like IR illuminators)

One of my upcoming designs is built around everything on the system being 48v PoE and being driven directly by a 48v battery bank that is charged directly by a 48v solar charge controller fed by panels. This should eliminate most of the efficiency losses and allow the system to scale much more...
