    USB 3.0 Cases

BitFenix will soon launch the perfect case : the Prodigy-M. It combines the best features of the Silverstone TJ08E and SG09B. I didn't like the original Prodigy due to its size for a mini-ITX enclosure, but a similar size would be very acceptable for a µATX enclosure.

Ivy Bridge-EP (Xeon E5) specifications leaked

Indeed. No matter if you opt to go with VSphere (~1000$ per year per socket) or Server 2012 R2 (~6000$ once per system), the cost of licensing always outweights the cost of going for premium hardware (versus targetting mid-range hardware if more licences are needed).

The only way you can make sure your backup plan is good is to simulate a failure and test if it restores your files as it should. I know that backing up files offsite isn't good enough for my companies because even with our 100Mbps symmetrical connection, it would take too much time. I have a...

My main NAS will probably have Openfiler as an OS. I have yet to install and test Openfiler (will do next week), but I think there's a feature that will let me synchronize files with another network location (a Synology DS1512+), or am I too optmistic? SnappRAID could be interesting if my main...

I planned to use Hyper-V Server 2012 R2 for the major server upgrade we'll do next month. Are you telling me that if I pay the ~6000$ Microsoft asks for the DataCenter Edition, I won't have to pay for the 9 Windows Server 2012 R2 std licences that we'll run inside VMs on that server? Each of...

BTW, I would NEVER use RAID5 in a mutli-terabyte array. The reason is that most consumer drives are rated for one unrecoverable error every 1014, which is once every 100TB. In your case, with a 20TB RAID5 setup (parity counts : screw the parity, screw the array), you have one chance out of...
