    Quality 24"-28" LCD monitors

Snowhiker: Suggestion: Go down to Costco, and buy a 32-47" Vizio XVT or Sony TV that fits your budget, with the inputs and outputs you want. You'll probably have to settle for 1900 X 1080, but, it's not THAT bad, trust me. If you don't like it, return it. I'm just really sorry it took me so...

    Lower Power

Funny I was just thinking the same thing. I've got two old 2.8 ghz, 70w Xeons running 24-7, with three SSDS, a ATI 4670, and one SATA drive. Seasonic 550W. 5 fans total all stealths, IIRC. I was thinking more of the power angle then heat. When this machine went to server/backup 24-7 online...

Pretty much my point, LM. The set of requirements aren't industry standard, and, he's going to pay an extreme premium for it, if he can even find what he thinks he wants.

    Quality 24"-28" LCD monitors

Snowhiker: I have, for a long time, been looking at monitors, features, and sizes. I'm not going to blow smoke, and tell you I like any of your choices. Here are my observations on the market: Computer monitors seem to be price fixed. In other words when you start getting larger then 22", they...

    Recommend a Laptop / Notebook (v. $800 / 14" 16:10 screen)

Time: I have a 1.6 ghz in my CF-51. What would make me look at upgrading? Going mobile. Requires Wi-fi, and I'd need a satellite or cell phone I can use as a modem. Must be able to play Bluray. Since SATA SSD's are quite capable of exceeding SATA 1, looking for the higher SATA standards, 3...

    Recommend a Laptop / Notebook (v. $800 / 14" 16:10 screen)

One of their saving graces is they did do an excellent job of chopping XP Pro down to a very fast, small, os, without adding bloat, or junk ware. Right now, they are so far out of the processor race, well, they are out of consideration. Only used, cheap refurbs appear to be worth it, and, even...

Panasonic does make the Semi-rugged line. Mine, the CF-51 was about 1300, with 1.25 gigs of ram, and 1400 with the SSD installed. Panasonic does an excellent job of making a solid, large laptop. I used it for teaching, hooking it up to a projector, etc...

That's how I feel about Panasonic. However, they are just too far behind the edge on offering processors, and, if they offer a decent processor, the laptop is 4 grand. One of these days we'll have to get together and compare the build feel between the Thinkpads and the CF-51. Also, I tend to...

SSDs - State of the Product?

Perfect for computers with Sata 1, or even two. Great price, 40 gigs is big enough for most boot drives, access time is king. Great way to breath life into a laptop, or older desktop.

In this area, I look at the customer reviews. I admit some of them are a bit off the deepend, but, it does show how D-Link supports their products, and the potential for problems. SSDs - State of the Product?

For what I use most of my machines for, I generally don't use all the ram I have. For instance, this laptop has 1.25 gig of ram. XP is currently using 400 MB/ram. The ram disk on this computer is accessed at about 1.5 GIG/sec, in peak configuration, both read and write. The SSD is around 30...

    Cheap unlocked processors?

I've got 12 gigs of ram, 1366. I should be able to crank an Extreme i7 near 4 ghz. They are 1000 dollars or so.
