The Costco warranty and setup on that is about two years. I'm just playing with the idea of a new one at this point.
I'm really waiting for the SSD for my Panasonic to see if that brings it into the 21st century like it did my server. It's taking a LONG time, coming from china...

I'd like a i7 laptop....
Hi
I'm wondering what folks are using for silent fans? I've been using Vantec Stealths, but, some are wearing out, after all, it's only been 11 years....
Scythes any good? comments?
After reading about the Silenx, please consider proven longevity in your comments...
My pleasure.

The above link has the prior webinars, with sound, and works.
May not be great for you, however.
Which program did you use, or should I use, if I'm going to setup space on my server as a target for Iscsi?
Probably use the server as...
Took me awhile to find that link. The Webinar went over downloading iscsi, setting it up, step by step in 2003, and was generally good stuff, but, apparently the sound isn't working, at least for me.
Hi
I can't get sound right now that is correct, but there is a webinar on this very subject going on today, right now:

Nothing logical about it. More hardwired, thanks probably to my mother and upbringing.
My mother looked a LOT like Sofia Loren. She had her breasts reduced when she got older
to 38DD.
Oedipus Rex is probably laughing right now, but, certain characteristics effect me, and, have nothing to do...
ROFL!!
Never thought of that angle, joke wise;-)
A closer inspection might have revealed fakes, but, I don't think so. Still, she was NOT hiding them. Red, low cut top, blonde hair, very pretty face, and in shape.
Hmmm. Girl with giant tits in Costco tonight thought the same, but, since I'm SOOO out of practice, I failed to take the looks to advantage;-(
dating sucks....
For perspective, I asked Diane Hsu to marry me. She said no, but, not before she was the best, ever....
Try Playboy bunny, March 88 if...
Since my uncle lost one leg, then was told he would loose the other, due to disease, and, having been a pro bike rider, decided he would rather remove his head with a shotgun, please excuse me if I don't find that remark very funny.
Thanks, but, I don't have a shotgun. 375 H&H perhaps, but no shotgun.;-)
That said, Sam's in a bad spot, and I understand what that's like...
How about giving the users this link:
http://www.tweakxp.com/performance_tweaks.aspx
and having them do the work??
OK:
Using HD Tach these are the relevant facts:
2 X-25M 2's, in raid 0
435 MB/sec burst
280 AVG MB/sec reads
Access time is 0.1 MS
Compare with 3 Vertex Turbos:
131 MB/sec read avg
224 MB/sec burst
0.2 ms access time (100% slower;-0)
and the
Kingspec:
157 Mb/sec AVG
0.2 ms access time...
It's an SSD. With that kind of transfer rate, what do you think the access time is going to be?
.o1????
What I should really do is create a Ramdisk, and put the pagefile on that, but, IIRC, the Ramdisk is created after the system is booted, and, therefore the OS uses an existing source, prior...
Have the users clean and wipe their hard drives, with you as phone support. Then have them reinstall everything. That way he pays them, and, you answer a few phone calls.
Sounds like with a 10 minute startup, they really need to be clean installed, and, then loaded with minimum software.
100...
Sam:
You never really said what OS you are talking about:
"My least-favorite customer just hired two people and wanted me to put two 2GHz P4s back into service for them. This is actually what sparked this topic for me. These machines are RAMBUS, have 256MB RAM in them that there's no way I'm...
Been screwing around with Opera 10.5, latest version. On 2000 SP4, it goes right to the limit, or over, of 256 MB of ram. Firefox runs around 170 MB of ram.
Also, exactly how slow are these boxes?
I just reduced the VM Ware setting to 256 MB of ram. It seems a bit slower, using Firefox 3.63, but not horrible.
You should be able to scrounge around and find some used ram on ebay for not too much money.
What about a hard drive upgrade? Seems to me if you don't have enough ram, it's going to be hitting the hard drive constantly in VM. If so, I suspect one could easily double or triple both access time...
Install 2000, install VMware Player, Install 2000 again?
Download Service Pack 4, install..???
Wonder which would suck more cpu cycles, VMware Player on old hardware, or, anti-virus software????
"I do wonder if you might run VMware Player on these machines, and use the OS in VM?
Then you wouldn't have to worry about spyware. I'm using less then 2% of the beast using it right now"
I wonder about how vulnerable you are running in VMWARE?????
Besides, Windows update doesn't seem to work...
Is there anyway to pull the ram out of one, and put it in the other, for a total of 512 MB?
That would give you one useable machine, and the guy would have to come up with something else for the other.
Explain RAM is no longer avaliable, or too expensive.?
As for the browsers: why not just go...
I really wonder if we actually need anti-virus software, at least in it's current status, for most people?
I remember one kid at school managing to totally screw up his machine, and, mine by going to music sites and downloading all kinds of spyware. If' I'd cranked up the security settings to...
Well, I've got 4 boxes in this house sort of fit in that category. I try and find a deal on Vertex Turbos, and put a 32 gig in each one I care about. If it's IDE, I ordered, but haven't got, one of those SSD's Stinker suggested. I then use the old drive as a D drive, and data backup. On the...
David:
Is there room on the Gigabyte motherboard you are using for two of those cards?
Or, are they talking about the Crossfire stuff being on the one, dual cpu card?

I'm using the Granite Digital Hotswap for drives. The caddies are pretty good heat sinks, and have little fans that help. However, I have a bunch of drives that are end of life, and, need to come out of the caddies, due to being good backups, but full, and or too small for much work. The toaster...
I copied this address into the window,
\\192.168.1.110\\Downloads
along with the suggested regedit progam list,...
Enabling that feature, low risk, did not require a restart, either.
Just double checked, no warning...and, the window opened much faster...
PERFECT. Entered Local Group Policy Editor, and fixed it. It was really annoying, since when I started the file transfer, they would not start until I got rid of the stupid warning.
It was really annoying, since when I do the file transfers the main screen is being used by the Server, and the...
Odd. Now it triggers a warning message that these files may threaten the computer. Looks like it's a standard warning that has to be turned pretty much off by lowering the local security standard in of all places, Internet Explorer 8?
Well, now it's good for two things: first doing windows...
That's what I've been looking for. Going to give it a try in the Panasonic CF-51.
I just checked, and I can get my install probably down around 20 MB, with programs.
I suspect that will be enough of a jump to let me wait until they really get the bugs sorted out on the i7 laptops, or, even...
That's one of the reasons I want another keyboard:
It doesn't have a Windows key.
It's the Logitech with the Bluetooth, for about 80 bucks.
Not to mention the shift key is starting to stick...

are just fine for...
I entered the following:
\\192.168.1.110\\Downloads
the window popped up, and, the file transfer was at 90 MB/sec, then went down a bit, but,
THANK YOU. IT WORKED..!!!
Plus, you solved in another way one of the things that really frustrates me about 7:
finding Run.
I pinned it to the taskbar...
I have a shared folder from the Server on The Beast's desktop. I have a holding folder on The Beast. I transfer files from one folder to the other on the Beast's desktop.
I've been checking the IP addresses, and, everything seems correct.
I've even tried merging the two networks that show up...
I'm using Windows 7 Ultimate on both machines.
It takes about 4 clicks to disable the NIC that is slowing the file transfers down. Transfer the files, then reenable the NIC.
For the number of file transfers I do, it's worth it. Takes maybe 20 seconds to disable, less to enable the NIC.
The...
This is the response I got from Nvidia: Note the bottom line about specific and driver:
"Thank you for contacting NVIDIA Customer care.
This is Sunil, assisting you with the query you have.
I understand from your email that you would like to know if the Vizio XVT 120HZ 37" monitor will be...
David:
I looked into this, and, it seems Nvidia may have to actually write a driver for the display.
Also, the TV's have the 120/240 thing, where the screen is running at 60MHZ, but, they say it's 120, because of some backlight refresh rate.
The Toshiba Raza(sp?) offered by...
