Yes. I had two Crucial SSDs connected to a 3Ware 9650se. I moved them to the motherboard Intel RAID and the performance more than doubled.

I think they were devolpeing that when the P4 roomheaters were out. Now that the 'Core' series is out, you don't really need water cooling. So why bother.

You will need to reformat to install Windows 7 anyway. There is no upgrade path from XP.

I have been using Intel boards and when you update the BIOS, it leaves your settings alone. I was expecting the same I guess. I really wasn't expecting the RAID controller to be set back to IDE.

This morning I flashed the BIOS on an ASUS P8B WS motherboard. I used the utility that was installed on Windows 7 by the ASUS install CD. Then the computer would not boot back up. Seems the BIOS update reset everything in the BIOS back to defaults, including changing the RAID array back to IDE...

If you have the time it may be worth while to set it up in all it's modes. Move some data to it and restore the data. Beats having to learn how when you need the data. Clean sounds dangerous.

Problem solved: My monitor has an automatic brightness adjustment setting in it. Seems it thought the text mode portion of booting up was too bright and dimmed it. :tdown: I disabled auto bright.

How about a basic .bat file xcopy g:\pictures1 n:\ xcopy g:\pictures2 m:\ xcopy g:\pictures3 L:\ N,M,&L are the smaller hard drives. Run the .bat from scheduled task.

Can you use a RAID 1 array of two drives and remove one and put it in a safe place, replacing it with another and let it rebuild? Then in a month or so swap the hard drives?
