It wasn't an X2 4200+, it was a single core Athlon 64 3200+. Right after the start, only ~40 process are launched and there's almost 100MB of unused RAM. It is surprisingly usable. Not much remaining ressources, but as long as you don't do many things at once, it remains responsive.

    Best CPU Benchmarks?

You certainly don't need an i7-3930K simply for a HTPC combined with an office machine. Unless you want to plug 6 monitors/TVs to the computer and play 6 different 1080p movies from 6 different VMs from it. If that's not your plan, please reconsider your options here. An i7-3930K is a bad...

Installing Windows 7 64-bit on an Athlon 64 X2 4200+ with 896MB of RAM is possible, but painfully slow. I'm surprised the installer let me do it.

I'm half-dead from sleep deprivation and while waiting for a virus scan to finish on a computer I must deliver tomorrow to a customer, I've scored 1239 points at Mahjongg titans (the one that comes with Windows 7). I didn't know that it was possible to reach that score in that game. I feel...

:-?:dunno: You might as well have written that in Chinese and I wouldn't have understood less. I reinstalled and that was the end of it. Next time it happens (and it will ; I always forget my username/password on my Linux boxes), I'll try Googling whatever you wrote there and see if...

How to setup a remote access on a Linux box?

Ok, there will be a slight delay before we can try anything. Back when I first installed my Linux shoebox, I had another monitor with a different resolution, so when I plug the new one, I don't get any picture. I forced a reset and now at the logon screen, I don't remember the...

Nope. I'd like a solution where I don't have to modify the AV. I shouldn't have to anyway, if the guys at G-Data had done their job properly. I mean, LibreOffice, probably the second biggest office suites in the World, being flagged as a virux. Kudos, great work champions.

    Special heatsink requirements...

Maybe the CPU heatsink is dirty or the thermal pad or thermal paste is dry or incorrectly applied and it causes the CPU to overheat. There's usually a setting for it in the BIOS, where you can set the temperature at which the fan will spin at full speed. It depends a lot on the motherboard you...

Just set the memory timing manually. You know what you bought. The success or failure of the F@H units will tell you if the memory is working properly or not. With the speed of that system, it won't take long to know as it will complete units fairly quickly.

Batman rent his car for the 24-hours race at LeMans this summer : Nisan Deltawing. 1.6L 4-cyl engine delivering 300hp and probably sipping gas compared to the other cars in that race. Makes the new turbo-charged engine in the Cadillac ATS look shy (2L, 270hp IIRC). Interesting concept.
