    Monitoring a computer

Thanks for your replies and suggestions! Yes it is for fail-over. The server will be running custom software, wrote in-house. Right now we are debating whether to have SQL Server running on this server or on a separate box. All of this is in the idea/discuss/test stage. Bozo :joker:

    Monitoring a computer

I will have two computers. Both running Server 2003 x64 and two installs of XP Pro running virtualized. Monitoring a computer

If you wanted to monitor a computer to make sure that is on line and functioning, what would yo monitor. You can use the 'ping' command to see if a computer is alive and responding, but what if a program crashed or locked up? Is there a 'heartbeat' in the OS that can be monitored. Thanks...

    Why C.A.F.E Standards are Dumb

I live in a more rural area. A means of transportation is mandatory. I can't see my aunt (at 70) walking 4 miles to the grocery, or 10 miles to the doctor. (she live in susidized housing in town) I have been working since I was 12 (I'm 60 now). I have a nice house in the country. I'll be dammed...

    Why C.A.F.E Standards are Dumb

Most of these people have the same car they retired with. They are not driving SUVs. And, with no public transportation, how do you expect them to get to work? Or the grocery store. Or the food bank? Most of their driving is within 15 miles of their homes. If they are driving SUVs or trucks...

    Why C.A.F.E Standards are Dumb

With the oil companies screwing the public already, what we don't need is more taxes on gas. It just makes it mean for the working person. Already some people are having a hard enough time buying enough gas to go to work, let alone adding more taxes to it. Our local food banks are getting more...

    Intel ICH8/9/10R, and RAID 1+0

Correct, except if you boot from the Acronis recovery CD, it does not see the RAID array. V9 anyway. Yes there is software monitoring, but no alarm messages if a drive fails. You must manually check the software to look for problems. Don't know what version I am using at the moment. Bozo :joker:

    Intel ICH8/9/10R, and RAID 1+0

I have a box setup with two hard drives in RAID 1 on an Intel motherboard with the ICH9R chip. Two things that bother me about the setup: one there is no monitoring software that will let you know when there is a problem with a hard drive. Two: Acronis does not see the RAID setup, it only sees...

    Why C.A.F.E Standards are Dumb

I have been checking my millage at each fill-up. Gasolene that contains 10% ethanal gets 3-4 MPG less than a fill-up of regular. The onboard computer confirms my calculations. My wife's car is also getting less MPG when running 10% ethanal gas. (both cars are about 1 year old and have less than...

    Why C.A.F.E Standards are Dumb

Last week I filled the gas tank in my car with gas that contained 10% ethanal. My gas millage dropped 4 MPG. Looks like another ploy by big oil to gouge the public. The gas wasn't any cheaper and you have to by more of it. Bozo :joker:
