    Build Recommendation for Father-in-Law

Agreed! Dual cores are the way to go. Moving between a P4 3 GHz with hyper threading and a Core-2 Duo is like night and day. It might have something to do with the archecture, along with dual cores, but the dual cores are much quicker in day to day use. Bozo :joker:

I just downloaded and install the latest Ubuntu. For the most part everything is okay. But, how do you install F@H SMP Linux program? I have pulled out 3 of my remaining 5 hairs trying to get it installed and running. It is things like this that will keep any 'nix distro from becoming main...

    32"-37" LCD HDTV Choice

Some where on the 'net I ran across a chart with recommended LCD TV sizes based on the distance to the viewer. I can't seem to find it now. I have been in homes where the owners bought the biggest thing they could and they look awful. Too big is worse than too small, IMHO. Great for 'bragging...

How are the Samsung 750 GB drives

Acronis sees every hardware RAID card I have tried it on. When I boot from the Acronis rescue CD, it shows two separate hard drives when they are connected to an Intel motherboard (Matrix) RAID 1 setup. It shows only one drive (whether it is a RAID 0,1, or 5) when using a 3Ware card. Bozo :joker:

How are the Samsung 750 GB drives

Acronis rescue disk only sees two separate hard drives when using Intel RAID. I would say it's software based. Plus there is no software monitoring from Intel to let you know if a hard drive dies. Bozo :joker:

    Virtualized OS & Multicore CPUs

More curious than anything. But, with multiple core CPUs, and most applications not optimized to use more than one CPU, it would make sense to assign each VM to a core of it's own. At work we are discussing the idea of having a computer with three operating system. One host OS and two VMs. Each...

The switch from the Alphabet keyboard to the Qwerty keyboard was to slow typest down. The typewriters of the day would jam up if you went too fast.
