I almost thought so, I hope it works fine. I guess you'll have the possibility to upscale the content in the receiver too, it might be nice. :) I just saw something that so far looks like a great deal on ebay, Linn Sizmik 10.25 subwoofer. Here's a review of the sub.

I understand, I'm not against HDMI. It's just that I (maybe mis)understood it like ddrueding might upgrade the receiver to one that could convert composite and S-video to HDMI. Of course it's no problem if it comes with an otherwise great receiver, but I don't think it should be a major factor...

Another alternative is to get just two channel sound. Two good speakers should be better than five or six less good ones. I get plenty of 3D sound from my >10 year old Linn Tukans... And don't upgrade the receiver unless it's really necessary. Conversion from component to HDMI can only degrade...

You can run almost all Linn speakers in single/bi-wired/bi-amped or active configurations, on the pretty new ones like the Trikan you just change to another link board around the terminals and you're set. :) My home cinema dream (within a reasonable budget) is actually the Trikan with Ninkas as...

My son is testing the limits all the time, just like it should be. And it's the parents that need to set the limits or people will not like them. Maybe it's a little bit old by now... Anyway - I made an observation this morning when I drove a Skoda Fabia 1.4 liter 16v - it used 0.9-1 liter/hour at idle according to the on board computer, that's ~ 1/4 gallon/hour? I know it's not the most common car in the USA, but I thought I should share...

That sounds a little bit on the high side, my first car (Opel Kadett GSI from 1985) had an 1.8 liter engine and it used 2.3 liters/hour when idling @ working temperature - at least according to the computer. And it used ~4-5 times that when the engine was cold.

Producer: CD quality isn't good enough

I mean, I've listened to a Linn Sondek CD12 that used to cost $20000 around 2004 and it sounded pretty good. It actually made Linn's own $10000 Unidisk 1.1 sound like utter crap in comparison. And there's a few more steps down to the sound quality of the $200-$2000 CD players that most of us...

Producer: CD quality isn't good enough

CD quality is OK, but it's almost impossible to extract the full potential of the CD. You'll probably need a $5000+ CD player to even come close. The best solution today is probably to rip the CD's and get one of these. Even a Squeezebox would probably give a big improvement for most of us...
