Problems with NPF 2002: What should I do?

Yeah, and do you see this? Man, I have had one of the most stable Windows installments for as long as I can remember... I want to uninstall the darn NPF... could you give me back €1000000 if it fails?

Problems with NPF 2002: What should I do?

Is Windows XP internal firewall enough for home use? I'm not running a server, neither I manage critical and/or hacker-prone data... Afterall, I never run unknown code downloaded from my mails and Norton AntiVirus 2002 scans and treats almost everything... I think I'll go without 3rd-party...

    Exciting technology

I doubt that. Due to marketing reasons most software houses will start providing 64bit versions of their programs even if the there's no big performance gain. IMO: 64bit apps will reach our PCs much sooner than you think...

    Exciting technology

IMO there's no more exciting news release than the release of a brand new processor... That's why I voted for the ClawHammer. Let's bear it: computers were brought to calculate vast amounts of data that humans were unable to do in a reasonable amount of time. CougTek is right on this one. I...

Variations of positions? Changing the sequence of the code changes the gene itself, Cliptin. (Mutations with dire effects on an organism can even happen by changing only one of the nitrogenous bases of the gene in question, imagine if you swap whole codon sequences...)

Problems with NPF 2002: What should I do?

The thing that makes me angry is the NPF is not responding positively when I put an IP (ie. www.microsoft.com) on the trusted sites... it continues its own don't-know-how blocking policies. I can only enter the problematic sites by deactivating completely the firewall... :(

Problems with NPF 2002: What should I do?

Me too, the functionality problems developed sometime in the months. Once I couldn't connect to the Nokia.com site (Handruin remembers...). It fixed by itself. :-? Now, Microsoft.com... don't know why... I haven't tweaked anything. In the beginning it worked in an impeccable way. I had been...

Hmm, if your analogy is valid you must be using Windows ME with all the freeware progies you find in magazine CDs installed... However, thanks for your null-valued input, CouchTest.

Problems with NPF 2002: What should I do?

I've noticed recently that Norton Personal Firewall 2002 draws my attention not for the number of hacker attacks it saves me, but for the problems it creates me... here I will give you some examples which frankly in the beginning were working OK and now they hamper my computing experience: -I...

Yeah, I know. These "positions" somehow stand for the complexity of the genome sequence to decode (as many of you have already noticed how 90-position genes take much more time than 70-position ones)... I just wanted to make sure that (AFAIK) positions in a gene isn't a term of the biological...

I have a 17" monitor. I don't care either about resolutions higher than 1024x768. However, bear in mind that many (serious or not) gamers are using 19" or even 21" CRTs... They need the higher resolutions. Yeah, that was a usual Intel-like announcement... I think games' generations move along...

I want to connect my NOKIA 6510 with the PC, but the damn phone is supporting only IR connection. I don't have a notebook, and my housemate's hasn't got an IR port (Compaq Presario 700)... Do you know any inexpensive USB-to-IR adapters and online stores that sell them (shipping in the EU...

Home LAN parameters: Can't connect my m8's notebook

Depending upon the network, all clients may be able to connect to the secure network as the same account that initially established the VPN connection. For example, if you establish a VPN connection to a corporate network on a computer running ICS, all the clients connected to the ICS Host may...

Home LAN parameters: Can't connect my m8's notebook

So, if I understood correctly... I'll have to create a VPN connection to the notebook with same connection data as the primary one. And gateway? The modem or the ICS host (my computer)? You know, this is a delicate matter cause I don't know what happens if my ISP detects two computers trying...

Home LAN parameters: Can't connect my m8's notebook

That's right. When you run the ICS Wizard Windows XP enables by default the internal firewall. I deactivated it but nothing. Also, when I did manually the ICS I left the firewall off. And even the Norton Personal Firewall deactivated!

Guys, I'm almost sure that it's the darn VPN (PPTP) that I can't connect. I did the ICS manually, without the Wizard, and my friend's notebook created an icon showing my PC (Local Area Connection on PROFWIZARD)... he even exchanges some packets now and then... but IE isn't working yet... :(...

Yep, that's already done. And when I see the properties I see that I have a static-fixed internal (LAN) IP and my friend has dynamic. And it should be OK cause my gateway is the IP of the modem and his gateway is my PC... :) I just don't know... Shouldn't my friend's notebook show anything...

Home LAN parameters: Can't connect my m8's notebook

I want to share my DSL with my housemate by creating a small LAN. After some initial thoughts we concluded that the best approach (and cheapest) would be to buy a second NIC for my PC and activate the ICS in Windows XP. So here is the situation: I have a DSL modem which connects to my first...
