    nVidia Titan V announced...

Once there are 4k (either flavor) at 120hz, I'll be getting 6 (two per machine) and whatever GPUs are required. I don't think I'll bother with an upgrade before then.

Still pretty happy with my 2x 1080 until I can get better than 60hz @ 4k or next-gen VR headsets come out.

    Some work on my A3

For parts it looks like about $20k, the labor is a bit of a question. I'm fortunate enough to have friends who are retired professional fabricators and race car engineers, who have the facilities, tools, and skills to do that part of the job well and for beer money. The electrical is pretty...

    Some work on my A3

Still working on convincing the Mrs, but it is looking good so far. At the moment I'm just wondering if the controller supports dual-motor operation; the suspension/chassis seems to have room for one front and rear. As far as battery goes, there is certainly enough room to add what I'd like. I'm...

The LEDs themselves. They are mounted on thin, flexible circuit board with nearly no ability to sink or dissipate heat. Evaluating possible options now.

The car feels much faster than that, but there was wheelspin to about 35mph (all 4; was slipping down the crown of the road a bit). Got the CEL fixed, but it still won't pass the "visual inspection", or the fact that the 2nd O2 sensor is bypassed, or some other stuff. Kinda gave up on that...

Mainly the smaller total volume. Being able to carry it in a smaller bag means being able to have it with me more often.

    Mirrorless Cameras (MILC) and Lenses

I'm pretty sure mirrorless better fits my new usage pattern (closer to a P&S, but not willing to give up features). So the question is whether I should unload all my Canon gear and go Sony, or hold off until the Canon mirrorless arrives and keep the glass.

New phone time v. LG G4 bootlooped

Entirely reasonable to ignore our suggestions; we are a very different type of user than you are. My screen is on probably 3 hours a day, so spending more makes sense for me. With your usage profile $250 seems the right price.

New phone time v. LG G4 bootlooped

I have had a second phone for about 3 weeks now, S8+ on Sprint (loaner, they want our business). I really don't like how narrow the screen is, and the fingerprint reader is in the wrong spot, and the amount of bloat Samsung puts in their phones (Bixby? Really?) seems to slow the thing down. For...

Second opinion on some electrical calculations

So far it is working fine, but I am still struggling with the logistics of delivering enough power to the strip for full operation. Thermals are also an issue. It seems they were engineered for ~10% utilization. With less than that I can drive 20m worth off a single wall-wart without issue. Once...

    Audio Equipment

The metal mesh might have a hard time with the tape, not a lot of surface area available. Contact cement is an interesting idea; is there a foam-melting concern there as well?
  22. ddrueding

    Audio Equipment

The trick is it needs to work with the metal mesh, foam inner, and leather(ish) outer at the same time. No CA because of the foam. Hot glue? Epoxy of some kind?

Second opinion on some electrical calculations

I've heard the 48v thing before, which is why I stopped there. Finding bigger step-down transformers might be the right play; running two strips off each would simplify the wiring. Finding 40A units might be tricky. I tried to avoid the 120AC for the same reason, it would require considerable...

Second opinion on some electrical calculations

I think I have this right, just asking for a once-over to make sure. I plan to run many of these 5-meter addressable RGB LED strips. Spec states 18W/m power draw (so 90W per strip). In my testing, I've connected two of the strips directly together and let power flow through the whole thing...

This is why I'm torn between the printer and the mill. The printer is much more accessible and cheaper, but not everything should be made of plastic.
