    Glass available today

Anyone else considering it? Today only, $1500. The main thing I'm tempted by is the POV camera for pictures/video of the kid. Though I suspect that this is a fire sale of dev units before the much cheaper and better production units show up.

    Galaticy S5

It was pretty much the money. I'd decided that the larger screen of the Note3 would be better for my use in the car, but got the call that I could have an S5 for free if I said yes right now. So I did. I hadn't been comparing the S5 to anything, so I don't have any arguments for or against it. I...

    Major Appliances

I have this French door fridge. I really like it. The only complaint I have is that the water dispenser stops operating when the opposite door is open (for no apparent reason). If I had it do to again, I wouldn't have a water/ice dispenser at all. Filtered water and bagged ice would be the way...

I didn't mean to say that they don't make a difference, just that the result when relying on just them is frequently unacceptable. In most cases I've had to install additional lighting in a follow-up based on the quality of the video on an overcast night.

In my experience the IR LEDs built into cameras aren't that great. Using some kind of external light source (IR or otherwise), particularly if it can be closer to the area of interest, is more effective.

    GPU folding is here!

At home the computer rack is water cooled. During the winter the radiator is in the house, during the summer it is in the garage. Designing a water-cooling system where the water heats to a sufficient temp to act as a water heater might lead to some system instability.

My current favorite for that kind of installation is the Axis M2014-E. Small waterproof unit outside, small box inside. Gets power over ethernet, has microSD card slot for local storage, has handy web interface for monitoring, setup, and retrieval of recorded content. Edit: Note that this unit...

You shouldn't have an issue mubs. I've done more installs than that. Now I have "Creative Cloud", a monthly subscription service for all their products that I have installed in three different places without issue.

It is a cheapo LED unit. The problem is that the layout of the room doesn't leave any walls to mount a TV. The resolution is that the projector is mounted to the foot of the bed pointed vertically, creating a ~50" image on the ceiling at just about the right angle if your head is on the pillow.

This must be slow, DD: Time to upgrade?

The CPU heatsink (and the rest of the system) were equally loaded, but those are accessible. The GPU heatsink is completely boxed in with a squirrel cage on one end and grille on the other. There is no easy way to get into this box without removing the heatsink assembly from the GPU which...

This must be slow, DD: Time to upgrade?

It seems one of the main issues of the overheating is that the GTX 295 has a large part of your cat in the heatsink assembly that I am unable to extract. The only loose and known working GPU I have kicking around is a GTX 690 if you are interested ;)

I'm not saying that you even have better than a 50/50 chance of making it work no matter what you do, but I've been in the "more time than money" position as well, and you may as well take a shot.

This must be slow, DD: Time to upgrade?

The Passmark tool produces the highest system-wide power draw of anything I've used, going so far as to read from any optical drive, play audio, STR the drives, and constantly refresh the video. For systems with questionable stability, it is the best I know.

Bad news for Greg, this computer seems to work fine now. In the end I believe the issue was insufficient cooling. It is built in to most of the programs, but when I'm just dragging out boxes and roughing things in I don't want to start dimensioning or specifying relations and it is easier if things just land in the right place. SolidWorks is big in this, getting the relationship mostly right first can save...
