    Kepler GPU GeForce GTX 680

That is worse. Someone on Slashdot said something about their change in architecture killing the GPGPU capabilities in exchange for better power consumption and slightly better graphics.

Nope. I won't put money on it until I can see an option list and know exactly what I'm getting. There is a looming issue that might scrub this whole thing anyway...more details later.

My new helmet must attract bees. Twice this morning they flew into my helmet, got stuck, and stung the top of my head. Sucks. For a moment I was concerned, having never been stung, that I might have an adverse reaction all alone in the boonies. Nope, doesn't even hurt anymore.

The Campagnolo stuff is excellent. Of course, anything made by the major manufacturers within the last decade will be lighter/faster, made from carbon fiber with ceramic bearings. My dream wheels at the moment are the Zipp Firecrest 404s shame they cost more than my bike.

    Best CPU Benchmarks?

Within a processor family you don't need benchmarks for these, either. Performance scales fairly linearly with clock speed.

    Best CPU Benchmarks?

I don't check benches either. By default I go to the latest architecture/process/socket, and then choose either: 1. The fastest. 2. The best bang/buck 3. The cheapest This is determined exclusively by clock speed and price at the time. Occasionally there is variable cache to worry about, and I...

If you mean for duplicating a configured VM and then changing the key to another you have, 2008 and 7 will let you do that in the "Computer Properties" screen after the clone. If you are too lazy to do that, just keep activating with the same key until they refuse activation. At that point you...

For the record, the Zalman CNPS11x Performa is a great cooler. A pair of them (in series - one takes in the exhaust of the other) are able to keep a pair of 150W E5-2687W CPUs (at 100% load 24/7) between 55C and 68C very quietly. Just don't try to fit them in a 4U rackmount chassis...they are...

Today was the first (attempted) ride with my teammates. Of course, it was a race simulation on the local crit course. I'll second that. An exhaust is mostly noisy behind you, where it doesn't matter. And the ricers aggressive driving includes driving on the shoulder, and merging into tight spots without signalling. Not safe no matter what. I always stop at stop signs, always signal, and never tailgate. Compared...

Office suites other than LibreOffice / MS Office

I completely agree. That might explain why I've never heard of G-Data. The other office suites I've heard of are all based on OpenOffice/LibreOffice, and will likely have the same issues. Unless you want to go the Google Apps route and use their word processor and spreadsheet stuff.

So to sum up, I could configure a couple dozen VMs that would happily run off a single HDD on a GbE connection (DCs, DNS, light web server, etc). I could also configure a single VM that would die at the end of a GbE connection (SQL or Oracle DB with lots of IO)

Agreed, except that the AC->DC brick itself can be quite inefficient and unreliable. If anyone has a source for high-quality bricks I would be very interested. If it really matters I get a scientific/lab power supply on the inside of a Voltage Regulator (that may or may not be inside a UPS).

Increased SSD Performance with relaxed retention...

I'm not 100% on the physics of transistors, but I suspect that these "light writes" would have a smaller impact on the drives longevity. IIRC, it is all about building an electrical differential, and this differential leaks over time. Building less of a differential should have less of a...

I did a bunch of research on these and the Synology devices looked nice, but I didn't get one. The performance loss compared to DAS SSDs was too great. I'll also second Merc's main comment. No matter what, having your data at one location isn't a backup. Accidental deletion or virus or...
