I wish I had an internet connection so I could return F@H results and get new ones...

But we recently lost a position to Tributar something

Around 3 p.m. this afternoon, when I was stuck in the middle of the snowstorm, searching for my lost set of keys which vanished in a snow hill, 3 of my 4 computers rebooted for no reason. The only one that didn't was my otherwise flaky Core i950. Go figure.

I restarted the client when I arrived home around 9 p.m., but the six hours I lost means that the damn 2684 unit that was being processed on one of my machine will miss the prefer deadline and it will only gine me some 8 thousand points instead of ~55 thousand.

I'm quite pissed at Stanford's team. They never fixed the 2684 project and thousands of contributors lost countless hours crunching that bitch. And they keep sending it even though they know there's a bug in it. It's ~30% slower to compute than all the other similar projects, yet it isn't more complex. Next time I receive one, I delete it and post in their forum that they can put it up theirs. I'm generously giving up my time for their project, the least they could do is not wasting it.

Wait, I thought you had a 570? Did you just upgrade it already or is this another new card? I think you need an equipment blog with a road map so we can keep track. ;-)

edit: never mind, I just read your signature.

Of the three video cards you have listed, which one do you like best regardless of folding capabilities?

Damn...five bills for that! I was hoping at most to spend three and a half bills. Thanks for pointing me to card, it looks like a champ.

It has been snowing all day today and likely all through tomorrow. They claim they dispatched someone to come fix the issue. I'll be amazed if they actually do.

If the fiber fell out that easily wouldn't it go back in that easily with help from you and a ladder?

Got mine consistently over 35k PPD, will do some more tinkering soon. Handruin is still plucking away with these massive 60k+ hits. What is causing your spikes?

If I tell you, I'll never have a chance to stay ahead. :-( However that would be selfish.

In all seriousness, I've just configured my FAH with a passkey and SMP folding. Since my system has 8 threadable CPUs (quad core with hyper-threading) I'm getting the bonus on those beefy work units which take three days to complete. They're returned in enough time to get the extra points. That's why when I had a network outage a week or so ago, I lost a ton of ground. The unit was returned late and worth a fraction of the bonus (18K points vs 67K). You have to get your passkey and then also select the check box for '-bigadv' work units and '-advmethods'. After you complete ten normal units, they'll send you one of the big guys.

We now have many major contributors in our team. On a 24-hours average, we are the 101st team overall. We are ahead of teams such as team Russia and team 2ch@PS3 which respectively have 114 and 204 active users (we are 11, counting the on-and-off Tea).

Speaking of Tea, people shouldn't worry about it (because of Ballarat's flooding). It sent a unit on the 6th of this month, so its computer must not be underwater and it still has electricity.

I just looked, and I'm the 1000th highest PPD user at the moment. Cool ;)
You're now 985th and I'm 285th by daily output. 666K points for me this week. It was a good one. And it was a great week for our team too. We have 4 members who contributed for more than 200K points this week only. We are the 96th best team by daily production. We are awesome.

96th of how many? How many computers is that?

BTW, sdbarwick is keeping up with you. He's just 2000 points shy of what you did this week. Not bad at all for an FAH rookie.
Been adding boxes as they complete their Prime95 assignments. I think I still need to add a Q6600 and I might bring two Phenom 9500s out of retirement depending on their FaH performance/watt ratio.

What are the machines you guys are folding with? Are you primarily using SMP or GPU?

I noticed I didn't get the bonus amount for my large work unit today. That pisses me off. I must have missed it by a couple hours...grrr. During the other night windows rebooted because of stupid updates so I lost out on 4 or 5 hours which must have been enough to miss the points window. :bibber: Now I got 18K instead of 66K.

That must have been one of those damned 2684 units. I received one today. I deleted the entire FAH folder and reinstalled and reconfigured the client. Ten minutes later, it redownloaded a f**king 2684 unit. It should complete it on time, but it will finish with less than 3 hours of the prefered deadline (the one where the huge bonus is applied).

I have three computers doing exclusively big units and another (the Core i5 2400) that is doing regular units. No GPU folding here.

And to answer Mooner, there's over 6000 teams worldwide. Probably between 8000 and 10000. Being among the first 100 requires a tremendous effort. And for individual users, the top 1000 is a dedication and the top 100 is insanity. I'm slowly reaching the later.

I've just checked and if I was a team, I would be 158th by daily production. What's frightening is that there's 242 individuals who are sicker than me.

I visited Stanford's FAH forum to see what Mark was doing these days and he gave one nice piece of advice for those running the GPU client (Solid State Drueding here) :

P5-133XL said:
Make sure that in the Nvidia Control Panel (Assuming Win7) the 3D settings->Manage 3D Settings->Global settings->power management mode is set to "prefer maximum performance". If you changed the drivers then that setting may have been reset and it can play havoc on your PPD.

SMP only here. Fastest is AMD 1090T. If Intel hadn't FUBAR'd the SB chipset, I'd have an additional 3 -bigadv capable systems running until spring.

How many machines are you running? Are you not able to get the bonus work units like I get with your 1090T?

He can't get big units with a 1090T because Windows only sees 6 cores while it needs 8 to start a big unit. Only Magnycours Opteron can process big units on AMD's side AFAIK.

2x Phenom II 940 @ 3GHz
1x Q8200 @ 3GHz
1x i5-750 @ 3GHz
1x 1090T @ 3.2GHz

I didn't think that the 1090T would be able to complete the -bigadv WU in time, considering they want 8 cores. Hmm, I guess it wouldn't hurt to try a WU once the current unit is done...

Edit: That's what I thought Coug.

Just noticed the GTX470 hasn't been running for who knows how long. Thanks for the tip on the power setting, that was wrong on both my nVidia GPU machines.

We passed the 60 million points mark yesterday

One of my machines gave me errors as soon as I started the client after rebooting from a batch of Windows updates. It had been flawless for an entire year before that (it's the first machine on which I started to make big units). Turns out the RAM went bad. Strange that it happened just like this after a reboot, but there it was. After replacing the RAM kit with a slower one (Kingston 1333MHz instead of Patriot 1600MHz) and increasing the CPU frequency a little bit (3.33GHz instead of 3.2GHz), the system has restarted to run the FAH client and it doesn't show any error after some 36 hours of folding. Let's hope it will last.

Apparently I'm no longer getting bonuses... I didn't get much for my last unit of project 6900. This is kind of annoying.

The stats page I've been using keeps showing 90k+ for the day, but the next day it shows that I did 25k the day before and have another 90k+ for that day. Goofy. Anyone have a recommendation besides XCPU?
