Got to crawl around a train a few weeks ago, including standing way up front while it was underway. I have some pictures of the train itself, but the view forward from the front felt really special.
Merc, you might enjoy these pictures of Slave Leias at Comic-Con. It should be work safe, but they are in bikinis. Avoid to be safe from work.

The Comic Convention that just ended in San Diego is often called "Nerd Prom" by attendees, but these days it mostly exists to market movies and TV shows rather than comic book stuff.
The Chicago Wizard World show is sort of a corporate PR event for Superhero comics.
There's also Gen Con, which started as a Dungeons and Dragons convention in Lake Geneva, Wisconsin, and IIRC is now the biggest gaming/science fiction convention in the world.
And at the end of the season there's DragonCon, which is held in Atlanta and is sometimes called "Nerd Mardi Gras." The costumes tend to be racier and the attendees tend to be more... enthusiastic.

Anyway, the woman dancing in this video has a degree in physics. I'm almost positive she supports herself as a professional belly dancer. She goes to comic conventions and performs in a Slave Leia outfit.
The comic books or magazines were not very sexy when I was 8, or perhaps we were too naive to think of that back then. I remember Mad, horror, and superhero comics. I confess not to liking that sort of thing, preferring books instead.

Manager was on-call so had his Blackberry in his pocket. He's backing in his new (second hand) boat down the loading ramp. In his haste he's forgotten to put the drain plug in. His son just watches the boat as it starts filling with water. Manager sees what's happening and runs into the water to plug it. The result, one submerged BB.

Concours weekend in Monterey is always fun. Took the wife out to The Charthouse for dinner, on the way in an original GT40 was parked out front. On the way out a new GT40 had taken its place. At the valet, the guy with the Merc S600 (V12) was feeling really good about himself until the SLR pulled up behind him. Merging onto the freeway I ended up between a pair of Teslas running MFR plates. The green one wanted to play, but the orange one kept blocking us. Countless Ferraris and Porsches, and my wife made the (rather loud) observation that Lamborghini produces the ugliest cars ever made right as we walk past a Gallardo Spider with the top down and the driver checking her out

I don't doubt that the batteries are capable of 10 minute recharge. However, a 110V outlet cannot supply the amount of power needed to recharge a ~30 kWh-hr battery in that amount of time. You would need roughly 200kW, or about 8 times what your typical 100 amp, 240V electrical service can deliver to the entire house, never mind one outlet. 10 minute recharge is a great feature to have, although it's only useful in limited circumstances (i.e. you're on a trip which exceeds the vehicle's range). As such, I'm sure when EVs catch on, you'll have gas stations turning into quick recharge stations (and charging a premium for the electricity). For day to day use with trips not exceeding the vehicle's range, overnight home recharging is fine. A standard home outlet could recharge the battery in maybe 18 hours. A 240V, 30 amp circuit (the type used for electric dryers or stoves) could do it in under 5.
And Tesla Motors has quite a bit of valuable field experience with EVs. I suspect they will be licensing a lot of their IP to the big players in the future. EVs it seems are finally about to become mainstream.

If I can get up in 6hrs, I'm going to try to make it downtown early the AM to catch the reduced far Metrolink train (hope it doesn't crash , no texting ) from there to Fullerton, then w/free transfers for the entire day...supposedly, I'll take 2 buses and get to Costa Mesa so I can try the 'great' crust on the pizza.
Then if I'm not too stuffed, I'll take another 2 buses to Westminister to eat vegetarian food @recently reviewed Vietnamese restaurant (more bang for the buck?), and then take 2 more buses back to the Fullerton station, for return to dwntwn LA, before transfering to bus to get me back to the westside.
LOL, that's the plan, we'll see if I get royally screwed by lack of service on the weekends.
could have done this all *much* easier in a car, in 1/2 the time...and on my own schedule...such is public transportation, at best a poor compromise for those who don't have the financial resources to use another mode of transportation better suited for long distance traveling.
<waits for jtr to tell me 'well in NYC, transportation is better'...my reply is that 'well you don't have the breath, choices of available Asian cuisine in NYC'>
...make that 5hs from now. Using a car, I'd be sleeping well past 9AM, and still get back home from leisurely traveling to both destinations, and getting back home in 1/2 the time, making the rest of the evening available to do other things I presently don't even have enough time to do all
Will be taking my laptop with me (orig. battery? how long with it last before crapping out on me?), so I can view the pdf files for the various county bus/public transportation system maps...doesn't give me a clue as to whether or not these buses run on the weekends, or if they only run once/hr...need an iPhone and web browsing for that

MRSA is antibiotic resistant staph. There's a much smaller than normal range of antibiotics available that treat it. Staph, once you have it, is very hard to get rid of.
In a lot of cases, there are asymptomatic carriers who have some staph bacteria that lives in their nose. My nose was my first site of infection. I took sulfamethoxal and it went away.
My second infection was on the back of my neck. I thought it was just an infected pimple and since I couldn't see it, I didn't know how bad it was. It turned into an abscess, wound up being about 7cm long and more than 1cm tall. It had to be opened surgically and then packed with gauze every day for a week. I got yelled at for not getting that treated sooner.
But my ex gave me another course of sulfa and some stuff to snort up my nose.
My third infection is also on my neck. Usually I see my ex to get doctor stuff done, but she's in Ireland for another week or so, so I had to go to a clinic. I explained the history to the doctor but, ha-ha, he prescribed sulfa again and told me I need to see a dermatologist because he didn't want to prescribe anything stronger.
I've washed all my clothes in hot water, thrown away and replaced all my bedclothes and pillows, wiped down all my keyboards, mice, all the surfaces in my car with a bleach solution. I'm not sure how else I might be getting reinfected.

Do you still have cats? If so, the litter box, food dishes, or even the cats themselves, could be reinfecting you. Also, did you clean everything you're in contact with at work? These types of staph infections are really scary in that we have fewer and fewer antibiotics which work on them. And often we don't even know how they originated. My father had a bad case of cellulitis, which is caused sometimes by some of the same bacteria causing MRSA, about a year before he died. I've long suspected it was a contributing factor to the decline which resulted in a fatal heart attack the following year. In short, do whatever you must to get rid of this infection for good. It's nothing to play around with.

My ex is telling me I need to see an infectious disease specialist. The doctor I saw said a dermatologist. My ex's concern is how close my wounds have been to lymph nodes and now to my carotid artery and says I need to do something Real Soon Now.
I'm really feeling like I'm getting a mixed message between those two opinions.
