    Dell 2001FP

New tubes are $50 + shipping. It used to happen much more quickly, like 5 - 15 minutes in to using the monitor. It took 3+ hours with the new inverter but that is only the first usage of the monitor. The time may well shorten. When I put the computer to sleep and then woke it up the monitor...

    Dell 2001FP

The thing just shut off again. Tried the flashlight and the image is there on the screen and I can interact with it. But there is no backlight. Did I get a bad replacement or do you think the AC Adaptor is the issue and fried another one. Because I used the old AC Adaptor because the cord is...

    Dell 2001FP

Yes it goes to sleep based on the PC settings. I think this was a quirk of this monitor when hooked up via DVI. But you'd think that pushing the power button would turn it off.

    Dell 2001FP

Nope not a new cable. But I did just get the replacement inverter board, installed it and put the monitor back together. It is working as I type. Hopefully if I leave it on it won't go blank again. But the power button still doesn't turn it off.

Old hard drive Seagate ST351A/X error, blinking LED

My guess is that on a drive this old the firmware or some portion of it was written to the drive itself and then uploaded to RAM on the controller on boot. Or it is just trying to read the master boot record to RAM and failing. I don't see any RAM chips on that controller board though, or any...

    Dell 2001FP

Thought I should mention this here as well. Before I started having the blank screen issues on the DVI connection, I was using the VGA connection and it went red. It was as if one of the colors in the control panel was turned to 0. I tried it on other computers and confirmed it was a problem...

What about a drill press thing. You know the ones where a drill is mounted with the drill bit pointed down and you use a lever to bring it down to cut a hole in whatever you have. You can probably change the bit to size. My concern is that the transparency would hold up under the force or...

Since you already tried the controller swap. Have you tried the freezer trick? This is usually the only thing that works in the case of clicking because of a head crash. Once it is recognized you can use getdataback or similar.

    Dell 2001FP

Where can I buy a replacement 2001FP? I only find the reconditioned ones. Or ones listed as new from suppliers with few or low ratings. I'll hook the wires back up and try the flashlight thing. I think it is the power inverter which is turning off the backlights. But wouldn't that turn off...

    Dell 2001FP

I thought I would move the discussion regarding my 2001FP here instead of the U2410 thread. Anyway it was having a problem with just going blank, though the power light stayed green. Also it would not turn off. The power led stayed green as long as the computer was on. Once off it turned...

    Dell U2410 24" H-IPS monitor - thoughts?

I may have spoke to soon regarding the 2001FP. I had plugged the new AC Adaptor into the same plug that was coming from my UPS. When I plug it in with the new plug to a different outlet, it has been fine. Crossing my fingers that it continues to work for some time. But this has me questioning my...

Well the $20 for a new AC Adaptor for my Dell 2001FP was unsuccessful in solving my monitor shutting off problem. Looks like I'll be picking up the U2410... eventually. In other news, they came to fix my payne heat pump/air conditioning unit but apparently my check valve is not functioning...

Ancient Computer; Modern Browser, Security software

They hired two more employees. Unless this is a non-profit and the people are working for free, they probably cost the company way more than new decent machines and software licenses will cost. Dell U2410 24" H-IPS monitor - thoughts?

Yes it isn't the cheap $50 a bottle stuff. The gas they use is like $300 a bottle. So there is the cost of the refrigerant (though I don't understand why they can't reuse the old stuff?). The cost to dispose of the old stuff. The time taken to drain and fill it. We found another guy through...

    Dell U2410 24" H-IPS monitor - thoughts?

Yes it is a labor cost thing. They have to drain refrigerant and refill or something. We are getting another bid for the repair (but with a $90 fee just to look at it again). I think it is just under 4 years old based on manufactured date in serial number but we didn't own the house when it...

How much have you put down already? Less than 20%? I think what he is doing is possibly illegal too. There are laws that say the Good faith estimate has to be given to you so far in advance and can only be off by so much. I guess you'll have to seek other funding and move back the date.

I setup a deal alert at slickdeals.net. I can wait a bit as I don't use the computer that often, like once a week. I have an old CRT hooked up right now. I think my 2001FP is having power issues. I might see what a new power brick costs.

Well I got the DVI card in but it was the top part (where the screw goes) that was the problem. Bend was too low. So I bent it to make it fit but now it isn't secured very well. It works. Unfortunately the monitor is not. Worked for a few weeks on the DVI port, now it is shutting off every...

I took some pictures and they came out with like a white haze over them. I have the raw NEF file. I couldn't seem to figure out how to fix it in Nikon's ViewNX. Maybe I can't. What causes this? Was the sun shining in the lens? Is this what those lens covers are for?

    Another slow disk thing

My only idea is to bypass the onboard ports and use an add-in card to give you SATAII support. If they still want the raid you could do it. But it seems like you could get rid of that and just have a reliable backup system.
