    dSLR thread

Well if you are just posting links, who cares how big the images are? Okay dial-up users do. And maybe those paying per KB like mobile users. Anyway this is what I see when looking at this thread. http://img34.imageshack.us/img34/4418/sfstereodude.png And then when I click a link I see the...

Stereodude, Why do you keep posting the thumbnail links to images? I can never really see anything from those tiny pictures and always have to remove the .th from the links to see them.

    Should we ban disposable batteries?

Not sure if I posted this or not, but my maha charger wouldn't charge in the 3rd slot for some reason one day but it worked the next. Maha replaced it with no real questions. They just sent me a new one and a postage paid return slip. That was awesome. The new one doesn't make the high...

    Household bookkeeping

Yes I wrote it for my own purposes. So it is kind of specific to my situation with paychecks every two weeks and my desire to pay at least 5 business days in advance. I took out all my data, except for the scheduled transactions. And those I changed the names of and amounts slightly.

    Household bookkeeping

Here is mine. Just fill out the scheduled transaction tab. Then the template tab with your every two week income. Then hit Ctrl + N to generate a new tab. You can do this for however far in the future you want. When you update one tab, the rest will automatically update as they are all just...

    Household bookkeeping

I track my stuff in quicken but I do forecasting/budgeting in excel. I'm trying to switch from using quicken software to quicken online, since all I use it for is a register of sorts. In excel each tab has one pay period. At the top is the income, and on each row below that are the projected...

    Favourite TV series

I'm of the opposite opinion on TV series on DVD. I don't buy them and think they are way overpriced. I think they are a good candidate for netflix items but not for actual purchase. I might feel differently if I didn't watch broadcast TV.

SSDs - State of the Product?

And the gem from the article was that while a page was 4KB, a block was typically 512KB, and the whole block needed to be erased and then rewritten. Some restriction of NAND flash and the way it works. So even if it had to write a tiny 4KB page, it needed to write 512KB. So your write speeds...

SSDs - State of the Product?

Just read that whole anandtech article. They explain here http://www.anandtech.com/storage/showdoc.aspx?i=3531&p=8 about the problem without the TRIM command.

SSDs - State of the Product?

A good explanation of TRIM is here: http://www.anandtech.com/storage/showdoc.aspx?i=3531&p=10 The problem TRIM attempts to solve is that of the flash controller trying to find free blocks to write to. If they are actually free instead of having old data in them, they are found faster and the...

    Random help

Yes I uses a level that I put on the washer. Because you need to make sure it is level front to back and left to right and via the diagonal if your picky. Instructions came with the washer. Yes. Here I assumed when I moved in that the previous owners or installers had leveled the washer. Turns out really no. The damage to the washer is probably already done, though. But it is somewhat better.

How to use a wireless router as a bridge?

I think you are thinking of google apps for your domain. This is where you have a gmail/docs/etc interface for your own domain. I use it and it is great. Wish they had a picasa web type interface too and I could use my own web space for it. As for Chrome, I use that as my primary browser. I...

    Sprint Smartphone

Sprint is looking better and better to me. I get a 22% corporate discount versus 18% with verizon so 129.99 would be 101.39 + 20 tax would be @120 per month and that is unlimited text, data and gps. But my wife seems dead set against them.

I felt the same way about switching carriers. Then I put my consumerist hat on and asked myself why am I loyal to this brand or that brand. The only reason is the coverage. But verizon doesn't work well at my brother's house. He is frequently dropping calls at his house. He's stuck with...

Assembly is probably a small part of the car process. You need to look at where the parts came from, where the raw materials for those came from, where the testing facilities are, where the design facilities are, where the money goes when you buy the car. But I wouldn't bother with that...

    Swapping Volume In WinXP

I wonder where the drive letter mapping is stored in windows. If you imaged drive2 to partition 2 on hd 1, would it pick up the drive letter or not? I had a similar issue with my Dad's computer when I moved it to a new machine. Although in this case it was the whole drive letter not just...

    Odd monitor issue

I'm telling you it is the refresh rate. The monitor in the wall is probably an old CRT and the refresh rate is set to something higher than 60Hz. So LCD monitors can't take that signal over a vga splitter.

    Odd monitor issue

Well XP detects what type of monitor you have. You can install inf files for monitors that usually tell it what resolution and frequencies it supports. Maybe it is trying to push a frequency or something the other monitor doesn't support. What monitor is in the wall?
  41. W

    Odd monitor issue

I would say it sounds like software at this point but I have no idea how it tells there is a vga splitter on there.

Old Stuff - Anybody want before I chuck?

I have an old AMD processor here from a machine that kept overheating. Not sure if anybody here would want it but thought I'd check before chucking it. I think it is an XP 1800+. Maybe you could use the memory from it? 512MB DDR I think.
