Looking for computer parts

Today is my last day at work. In a way I'm a little sad. With 35 years at the same place, I've worked with some really great people. I will miss them.

Actually learning any of the older OSs will be a huge benefit down the road. Things like AS400 and Open VMS are still being used and probably will for quite some time.

The company that I used to work for does this. Turnover is terrible with most employees lasting about 5 years. The quality of the product we manufacture suffers too. The saying "Jack of all trades, Master on none" comes to mind. The employee never gets a chance to get a 'feel' for the process...

Intel NUC. I built one with 2GB of ram and a 60GB SSD for about $380.00.

If it's non-volatile I wonder if you could boot from it?? In the BIOS there would be a selection to boot from memory and possibly one of the memory slots could be a dedicated 'boot slot'. The desktop would be up before your finger got off the power button.

Intel seems to be more concerned about changing socket size every 6 months; changing (Improving??) the internals of the CPUs they are already making so they can't be used in any existing motherboard; reducing the power consumption so you need to buy multiple CPUs with multiple cores if you want...

I agree. All the computers/servers that I build run 24/7/365 and I have more monitors and power supplies (usually the fan dies) fail than hard drives.

Heating, cooling and lighting would also be part of that bill. Depending on the building size that could be a substantial part of the bill.

Just doing a quick scan of the text file, I would guess you have a USB driver issue.

I have used these CRU adapters. They mount the 2.5" hard drive in the right position that they can be used in hot swap bays.

If write cache was disabled, then what is the point of the test. If write cache is disabled on a spinning hard drive, there is a 99% chance you are going to lose or corrupt the data too. ( been there, done that, paid the price) Even Windows warns you that you can lose data if you disable write...

There is no mention of whether write cache was enabled or disabled on the drives. What operating system was being used?

I have some success using Partition Wizard. Usually I wipe the drive by writing all zeros to it.

The Tyan motherboard is EBB (12" x 13"). The case says E-ATX. Is that the same thing? The one thing that jumped out at me was there are only 2-6GB SATA slots. You are using 6 SSDs. Are you using some type of add-in card?

The only advantage to using the motherboard fan control is fan speed control and noise. I'm sure there are fan controllers available that can do the same thing. Antec makes fans with an automatic speed control built in. Like this. I'm sure others do too.
