You might try a new power supply. My RCA cable modem was doing the same thing. Constantly resetting itself. I connected it to a train transformer and jacked in 14 volts in to it and it worked fine until I replaced it.

Sounds like it has converted itself into a paper weight.

Have you checked the settings of the devices that the cable is connected to? Sometimes you need to set one device at Auto Negotiate and the others at 1000Gb. Or both at Auto. Or both at 1000Gb.

The last time I install VMware (free edition) it didn't like IE7 or IE8. It worked but the GUI was kinda gooey.

Yes...at work we are forced to use IE6 and a lot of sites don't load right. They pop up a message to tell you to upgrade your browser. At home the same sites look much better with Chrome or IE8

An Antec P183 or P192 wouldn't work?. They are quiet, and lots of room for expasnsion. You could even install a Supermicro 5 slot hotswappable unit in the 5.25" bays.

Another quirk: Win 7 Pro x64 works fine on our network with static addresses. Win 7 Pro 32bit doesn't. For some reason we have not had success in getting it to 'see' other computers on the network. :dunno:

I also disable system restore in XP. But in Windows 7 I leave it enabled as that is about the only way to repair a system. There is no 'repair install'.

At work we found that the MS anti-virus does not screw with our proprietary programs. It is also faster to update the virus definations without slowing the computer down. It doesn't seem to be a resource hog like the Symantec Corp edition we were using. And, it's free.

I try to match the memory speed with the CPU bus speed. No sense in creating a bottleneck with slower RAM, or spending more on faster RAM if you are not going to overclock.
