    Windows *Vista*

Well, Vista is a lot different than XP. XP looked and worked like previous MS operating systems. (as far as the user is concerned). An example: In XP if you wanted to change the desktop, you would right click on the desktop and select 'Properties' The you would be presented with a window with a...

    Intel strikes back

I don't think clock speed is all that important any more. It's more about getting more done with what you have. Efficient use of power. But there may be 'speed bumps' next year, and there is always overclocking. BTW, congrats on 1000 post  Bozo :joker:

    Anyone use freeNAS

I agree with ddrueding; we are a complete MS operation also. Adding a Linux system to the mix just makes more work. Besides, our NAS devices run XP which has some distinct advantages. I use scheduled task to go and get files & folders. Bozo :joker:

    Windows Server 2003 R2 questions

R2 as such did not add a lot of "Features" to 2003. It fixed a lot of things internally. I ran it for a couple months and found it even more stable than 2003 SP1. (Stable might be a bad choice of words....it just seemed to be better than the standard install)...

    New Memory

What I find odd, is the fact that back in the late 1970's, we installed PLCs (Programable Logic Controllers) that had non-volatile memory in it. The actual program was store in this memory. And it retained the program when the power was off. Bozo :joker:

Download 'NLite' and try to make a new install disk. Maybe it will let you use one of your keys with the re-install disk. Nlite does overwrite the OEM file. Bozo :joker:

    Windows Drive Tools

You can run "chkdsk *: /r" from the command prompt in Windows (the * is the drive letter). This will check and repair all clusters, even empty ones. Seagate has an Enterprise drive diagnostic program that runs inside of windows. But if my memory is correct it might only do SCSI drives...

Weird: The power supplies that came with these Antec cases have sleeve bearings. On one of the computers that shut down the power supply fan was seized up.
