    Bogus Drive Temperature Reading

I know next to nothing about this sort of thing, but where is the reading coming from? I assume it is not an external thermometer. And, what is the reading? Is it very high or low?

Seagate's 300 GB 10kRPM SCSI Lineup Making Quiet Debut

You know, it's a frightening thing to open up a hard drive that is spinning faster than 7200rpm. . . :o I know, off topic, but I'm the type who will try anything. Didn't take long for that drive to bite the dust, by the way. It made some dramatic last-gasp noises before it went out though...

jtr, just curious, who do you want to be treated better by? Religious people? Apparently you allow your mind to be controlled by other people in order to be treated better by them. Therefore you cannot make moral decisions because you can't think and act freely, right? If no, then what do you...

That's the thing with religion, it changes the way one views the world. If the people of this country vote to give benefits to hetros and not to homos, that may not be "fair" in a secular sense, but that is what the majority has chosen, and therefore I don't see how it can be called "unfair"...

In defense, I just want to say that since I had seen reference to "nuke"ing right-wing religious folks, I thought my foolish remark to be somewhat justified in the prevailing atmosphere. Although it was quite small of me to do so.

Seagate's 300 GB 10kRPM SCSI Lineup Making Quiet Debut

I'm sure this is a really idiotic question deserving an idiotic answer, and not exactly on topic, but why are scuzzy drives odd sizes (as compared with typical ATA)?

Well now, if we would use the old-Testament law of dealing with homosexuality (only reason I am bringing religion into this is because it is part of the discussion at present), that would take care of things quite well, and may even reduce crowding: Leviticus 20:13 (NIV) "'If a man lies with a...

Merc you sound very pessimistic (IMO) about the future of the country. Of course, on many social things I think it would be good to move "backward" a little ways, at least. I personally don't see what it could hurt not to force people to legally recognize a same-gender "marriage," which...

Loud Pop + Smoke = Machine still working???

Whoa.....interesting. I blew up a couple of hard drives that way. I unplugged and plugged it back in. It didn't like that, so it popped and started smoking. Hard drive was then dead. Obviously something not completely necessary blew up on your machine? lol that's just weird.

Hee hee. That you could, if you base your life on a misrepresentation of a single verse. Fact is, we have no idea what is in store. What this verse really means is that we have no need to worry and fret. Doesn't mean we shouldn't work hard. In fact, waiting for tomorrow to bring us work is the...

You guys may consider me a religious zealot (and you would be right) but this is the answer I stick with to a certain degree when asked that question: Matthew 6:34 Take therefore no thought for the morrow: for the morrow shall take thought for the things of itself. Sufficient unto the day is...

    Service Pack 2

I did get one or two small updates since SP2, but what I meant to say was will there be gaps in the updates/patches on the new installation (will I be missing updates that came before SP2) or can I go ahead and install whatever comes after SP2 and consider myself covered? Probably a stupid...

Thanks for all the info guys. Actually I have heard some very humorous things about SP2, but nothing has crashed on my end (except the Catz and Dogz game, but that was an easy fix). I just like the feeling of being up-to-date. lol. I was warned off of SP2 by many others, but none of their tragic...

    Bigger Drives When?

Merc don't get me started on Western Digital. I sure hope they are making them better than the one I currently have in my computer. The old Maxtor (only 15gb!!) drive I have makes the computer boot up and start programs twice as fast as my current 60gb WD drive. I only have this stupid thing...

    Bigger Drives When?

Well, all I can say is "wow!" I guess this is why it's called storageforum, huh? I can't imagine what I would ever do with anything more than 100gb (the thought of it actually nauseates me). Ugh, I'm getting claustrophobia! I like computers but when we talk in 5 and 6 TB's, I get a...

Old Backpack hard drive works on all but one computer

Great news!! I did the esc+F1 on startup and got into the bios. The parallel port setting was on "not used" so I changed it to LPT1. That didn't work so I changed it to LPT2. After fiddling around with the software and driver settings in XP, it is finally working! Hallelujah! I wish I knew...

Old Backpack hard drive works on all but one computer
