The 4th of July tends to fall on the 4th of July. Some companies observed it on Friday this year, but not mine. If it falls on a weekend already, what do you need a day off work for?

I want to buy a new car

I think the reliability front is mostly good news, similar to hard drives. Sure, some are more reliable than others, but all are more reliable than they used to me and nearly all are reliable enough for general use. Hyundai has a great warranty and an excellent reputation. Not sure the exact...

I want to buy a new car

If I had to buy a car tomorrow it would be a Golf R. The GTI is practical, affordable, FWD, and has great visibility. Not sure what you mean by "narrow width" and "good-sized". Do you mean a full-size car? Cadillac XTS or Audi A8? In my experience those come in two varieties; slow/crap and...

RouterBoard (MikroTik) or Ubiquiti EdgeRouter - any good?

In my experience an iPhone has the worst range of any wireless client. They are what I use when I'm placing APs to guarantee overlap as a worst-case scenario.

They can have it repaired if they like. Before this phone I'd only broken one screen, so it might just be that the S5 is more delicate than the S3 or Note.

Not sure which one you are talking about, but apparently the newer Atom CPUs actually aren't that slow. If I were looking at a convertible tablet/laptop thing, I'd be considering the Microsoft Surface Pro 3. Review here: https://youtu.be/alpaxt7gGZU Edit: Sorry, didn't see the posts on this...

I want to buy a new car

The friends of mine who are least tech-savvy seem to have better luck with the BMW system over that of Audi or MB. The British and Italian cars are all a complete mess, and the Japanese are a bit funky. Not really into American cars, but the Ford system had a good rep last I checked. The...

This is the thread for the discussion of interesting apps.

I've found several that I prefer to the stock options. For those interested, it comes with a 15 minute refund window. This looks particularly interesting. I'm currently using Glympse when I ride alone, and this looks much better. You should all be riding/running with a RoadID bracelet as well...

They do run on 24v instead of 48v. I thought all the devices that did this included a PoE adapter. I'm I'm going to have several of them I get one of their ToughSwitch Pro units (the pro supports 24v and 48v).

    Android phones: Tips, tricks?

My phones live a pretty hard life. I pretty regularly replace the glass/LCD on my units (as I do for others in the company). In fact, I have a spare S5 glass/LCD unit sitting right next to my phone now. Of course, this break was clearly my fault*, so I'd need to pay for the $200 part myself. If...

Thanks for the quick review Merc. The LG G4 is my next phone I think. Just wondering if the cracked screen on my S5 will hold together long enough to let me upgrade (Sept?) or if I'll need to buy it.

The Mk VIII is a nearly 4,000 lb car with 290hp and 295lb-ft. I could throw those electric motors in the trunk as ballast and still have a better power/weight ratio.

Once you factor in the transmission, cooling, exhaust, driveshaft, intake, turbo, etc. I don't think the current system is too far from that.

If I were to use four of the motors I linked (one per wheel?), that would be a total of 232hp and 692lb-ft. At that point the question is whether I need a 2-speed transmission or whether that is enough torque to not bother.

"Done with Adobe" is a very bold statement for a photographer. LR is a POS, but you're now a bunch of versions behind on PS and buying new cameras? Pirating PS might be the best road ahead, as I don't know any workflow that doesn't include LR or Bridge handling RAWs.

The Aventador is mostly a joke, though I would be envious if you splurged in such a fashion (as I have yet to do). They'll also rent you a top-end Range Rover (far more practical and cheaper). I'd suggest at least taking your car in somewhere for evaluation before replacing it, but I always...

I know in my car the check-engine has two modes. Constant-on means take it in as soon as you can, blinking means pull over and turn it off to prevent additional data. Either way, a road trip can't be recommended. There are a number of better car rental options in your area. Might I recommend an...

Or, don't go to places that aren't supportive of human life. I had found a map somewhere of all places on earth where the average low is above 50F (10C) and the average high below 86F (30C). I live in one of these places and can highly recommend it.

Merc nailed it. I would however connect it to the network exactly once, just to download and install the latest update, then forget about it altogether. The thought is here that since they have the ability to push updates, they may go through even less QA before shipping.
