    Surface with Windows 8/RT

I have a 1st gen iPad (with 3G, so I will keep it to use when travelling). Some of the interest in the Surface for me is the similarity with Windows 8 on the desktop. Some is that I'm the person who's expected to have an opinion on new things in my small circle: should I recommend iThings or...

    Surface with Windows 8/RT

FWIW I have a Surface (typing on it right now), and I'm perfectly happy with it. Email works (Office 365, IMAP, Gmail). Word displays text just as quickly as I can type (no, I don't type that quickly, but I do use more than one finger). You can access the file system. You can access files on...

It's been in Firefox for a while, certainly 3.6 which is what I'm using now. In about:config set browser.tabs.closeButtons to 3.

Simple video editing and DVD authoring

TMPGEnc is pretty easy to use. I haven't done anything complicated with it, but it seems to be able to deal with editing commercials from two hour movies without any pain. http://tmpgenc.pegasys-inc.com/en/product/te4xp.html

Lenovo seconded, but only the Thinkpad line. As our computer guy responded about our purchase of some T60s "The T series are the same as the IBMs of old. The actual Lenovo (non ThinkPad) stuff is retail crap."

Helluva Deal! (Serial Attached SCSI Bundle)

I received a (paper) letter in the mail (slot) today too repeating the original email confirmation in Timwhit's quote. Sheesh. Is this much contact normal from Adaptec Customer Care? I hope nobody shows up at the front door tomorrow morning....

Helluva Deal! (Serial Attached SCSI Bundle)

Yeah, it's still a good deal. Best I could find up here was CAD 1015, USD 860ish. This deal will be around CAD 670 including shipping, and if I'm lucky, customs might miss the taxes (one can always hope.)

Helluva Deal! (Serial Attached SCSI Bundle)

I got the same reply from Adaptec a few days ago. They just called me up, I thought to verify that I was a "qualified" person. I was expecting to lose the deal, as we're not in the computer business, and don't buy masses of computers, but they just wanted to let me know that there was still a...

    moon angle (pictures)

1/30th at f8 rings a bell for the moon...maybe I remember it from Ansel Adams' process while taking his Moonrise over Hernandez image (I think he didn't have a light meter?) P5-133XL is right, the moon itself doesn't need a lot of exposure, after all it's in full daylight.

Isn't everything Auslese and up botrytis affected? Just happened to pick up a basic Balthazar Ress Rheingau Riesling yesterday when I was getting my bottle of Beaujolais Nouveau. I've had some nice wine from this producer.

Or use Cellartracker to track your wine online, with tasting notes, etc. Works from your phone too. 8) or :eekers: (depends on your level of wine-geekness)

    Notebooks

Another vote for Asus. I've had an M5N for about 6 months now, and have no complaints. Came with a CD burner / DVD player, and I put in a Hitachi 7200 rpm drive and more memory (it takes a micro-dimm that I hadn't heard of before). I'm not a road-warrior by any stretch, but it follows me...

Well, I can get a live bookmark at work with moox Firefox 1.06, so I'm thinking it's something with the home system, not with your coding Handruin.

    RSS feeds

I just get a "Live Bookmark feed failed to load" message. BBC and Slashdot work, so is there something special to do for SF? I'm using Firefox 1.06. I tried Sage as well, and that gives an "XML Parse Error" message.

More like USD 3.50 (3.78 litre to a US gallon), but anyways, still lots. I like the sound of the imperial litre though. No, can't do it. I particularily like the bit referring to the "Getting Started" section indicating that you can back up to CDs. Except that you, um, can't. And it's been there in the guide since W2K.

Thanks for reminding me of this. We saw this in the distance when visiting there last year, and I never followed up on what it was. It really is BIG. You could practice safe-computing and do without. I had NAV on my home system for a year; it never found anything, so I've ditched it. Depends on what you do, and whether you share the system with anyone. And you may like the "peace of mind" afforded by an up-to-date AV program We use Symantec...
