If they tag you in a photo and you don't have an account, it doesn't really do anything other than show your name to that person or their friends.

I know, but the photo is still out there for any of their friends to see or everyone depending on their privacy settings.

We haven't had a good OCZ rant in a while. Stay tuned. I'll be posting my thoughts on their SSD firmware updating procedure shortly. :cursin:

This of course assumes that I am successful in following their inane and unbelievably piss poor method.

So, who thought iterative drive FW flashing was a good idea? You can't immediately go to the newest version. You have to stop at each intermediate step along the way. Idiots! :bstd:

You also can't flash the drive if you have an nVidia chipset (even if it's in the required IDE mode). Idiots! :bstd:

All that is left of my kitchen. And that will be relocated next week.

The lumber in your house is probably a different size than what you are able to buy now. Are you having problems getting things to match up?

(back then a 2X4 was almost 2" X 4". Now then are much smaller. 1-5/8" X 3-5/8")

Nope. Lucky in that regard. It isn't exactly the same size, as it has dried/shrunk in the last 50 years, but it is dimensional lumber.

I was able to save quite a few studs from the walls I removed; really good wood, and the right fit with the rest still in the house. Problem is that it is very hard; I'm having to pre-drill some of the holes.

A nail gun will save you a ton of time. We have two of them and they make life so much easier when putting together stuff!

Attached are some pictures of our den that we're rebuilding. We had the electrical work done and yesterday had both windows replaced. I spent tonight pulling all the leftover nails out of the studs and also took down some more of the remaining plaster. This weekend we'll be buying the Sheetrock and insulation to begin rebuilding the walls.

I also included a couple pictures from my networking project. I still have a bunch of work to do with making the wires nice and neat, but it's functional so far. I do have one cable in one room that will only connect at 100Mb which is annoying. I've cut and terminated it twice. I verified the switch port is good, but may be the keystone, the actual wire, or patch panel are damaged. I guess that's one of the benefits of running numerous cables in case one is bad.

That's odd. I didn't have any such issue with any of my runs. They all worked a 1Gb. What's it do if you force it to 1Gb?

Timber Educational Resources said:
 • If the nails are driven into the wood, they have to displace all of the fibres and this generates quite high tensions and compressions in the wood in the vicinity of the fastener. The tensions can cause splitting in the timber and larger spacings reduce the chance that the splits will develop.
 • Where the timber is a seasoned high density hardwood, the nails might be quite difficult to drive into the wood and the tensions generated may be so large that splitting will almost certainly happen. In these circumstances, it is common to drill a pilot hole first and drive the nail into the pre-bored hole. This reduces the tensions and means that smaller spacings end and edge distances can be used.

So this quite excellent site says you are doing exactly the right thing!

That might just drive you insane though. I'd also suggest trying a nail gun and maybe thinner nails - a nail gun can drive thinner nails than a hammer without bending. AFAIK, the thickness of the nail is to support the length, so if you can get away with say, 3mm diameter nails, that may actually help. What size are the nails you've been using?

I logged into the switch and at most it gives me the option of 100Mb for every port. I have to dig around more in the switch to see if there is some place else to select 1000Mb and see what happens. I'll troubleshoot it more when I have time, but it's ok for now that this is the only one so far. I still have to wire up my den after we put the walls back up. I'll have to test those also.

Worst case, I pull that keystone out of the wall plate and insert a blank and then just use that switch port in my basement for something else.

So, I accepted a job offer today. Not sure on the start date, but it will be nice to get back to work.

I actually received 3 job offers and got to pick between 'em. They were all a bit different. So at least in my case the job market wasn't totally dead.

If you have all individual cables comming into the box, what is the point of the patch panel. To me it looks like another place for connection problems. Can't the cables be plugged directly into the switch?

Congratulations to people who have had birthdays or gotten jobs since the last time I've had a chance to read this thread.
