    Annual Job Review

I wrote on the evaluation paper we send him prior to the meeting that I wanted his job. He knew it about a week before the meeting. I've had my meeting this afternoon. I'm not oofficially the IT director, but I do have the powers generally assosciated with the title. He's open to change my...

I'm curious about the average ppd of the RX 480 and also about the stability of the client when running on Polaris. I'd guess around 300,000ppd? I've seen some very low prices on the RX 480 in the past few weeks. Barely a difference with the RX 470 around here.

    Annual Job Review

No. It's his job or I'm gone and losing me would be prohibitively expensive. In a way, I'm helping him. He told me at least twice that he didn't do what he wants in life. I'm just giving him an opportunity to fulfill his dreams.

    Annual Job Review

Tomorrow, I meet my pseudo "boss" for my annual job review. Remember that scene from T2? Well, I'll tell him "I want your chair, your job and your office". I plan to wear clothes though. The thing is, I'm already the decision maker most of the time and I've cut the department expenses by...

AMD Ryzen pricing released, Intel cuts prices in anticipation

The sad way Intel is planning to play it. The writer of the above is biased for AMD and I have little doubt AMD would use the same tactics if it was in Intel's position. Still. Unless the official reviews don't show the same praise of Ryzen's performances as the snips we've had so far, I plan...

    ESXi 6.5 vs ESXi 6.0

I don't even use it on that server (bought it used and I use local storage, not connected to a SAN). I was just wondering what caused the longer boot time, but I think it's because it's loading a more complex web interface since that's the main way to control the VMs now under ESXi 6.5. I've...

    ESXi 6.5 vs ESXi 6.0

It is very common, but maybe not to the point of being on more servers than not present. Unlike the RAID controller and network adapter. But yes, support for everything in those DL380p should be considered mandatory before releasing a software version. They don't have any excuse.

    Cloudbleed: Change Your Passwords

    ESXi 6.5 vs ESXi 6.0

I've upgraded a development server from ESXi 6.0 to 6.5 this evening. The web interface is nice, but the server took about twice as long to boot. This particular server isn't very solicitated and I don't reboot it very often, being a dev server. Still, is the longer boot process something...

Flash Memory quality (USB sticks and microSD cards) [v. It all sucks?!?!?]

It's also twice as expensive as the Lexar S57. I buy them by the dozen for the staff. The S57 is way better than the cheaper Kingston DataTraveler I usually purchase and barely more expensive. I'll go with that.

Thanks. I was looking for a good USB key model and the Lexar S57 seems like a decent option. It's not very expensive either.

I want to buy a new car

It's an awesome deal. I don't know the price per gallon of hydrogen, but 15,000$ worth of fuel should cover most if not all your needs for the leasing period. I hope something similar is available around here when my lease ends up in 2019. I doubt it though.

When it's not rackmount, it's not even on my radar. It's probably quite fast for a NAS and the processing power is sufficient to run a few VM out of it. It doesn't come with 10Gb SFP+ ports, but it's understandable since the targeted audience probably wouldn't know what to do with those and...

    Server rack suggestions?

We often use a Black Box 25U rack on coaster to setup customers' architectures. It doesn't have any cable management, but it's sturdy and cheap. You can combine it with cable managers to do a cleaner build.

It's T-800. As for compensation, they don't offer enough. But you can't plan a global system shutdown on a monday morning either, so I didn't have a choice to do it during a week-end.

    Server rack suggestions?

Well, I moved the servers and networking gears to the new rack this week-end and it's too short for the HPE StoreEasy 1650 Expanded. It's very tight with the 3PAR rails too. The rear lateral PSU management also are useless since the rack is so short that the server rails overlap the rear 0U...
