Ugh . . . need an undelete utility

Didn't have time to find one on my own. The few I found demand that you pay them ~$50 for the dumb thing to work. It's for a fat32 drive (HDD video camera). Thanks for any suggestions!

The race for the US presidency

McCain was rotten, in my opinion. The absolute worst possible choice. The Republicans have demonstrated that they are the architects of failure. Picking a nominal Republican who may as well be a Democrat is not the way to win elections. If it weren't for Palin, I'm pretty sure a few more states...

The race for the US presidency

I truly hope you are right. While liberals and Democrats have blatantly aimed for bigger, more controlling government, so-called "conservatives" and Republicans have done exactly the same, only hiding it a little better. It is time our government is pulled down. But how will that succeed when...

The race for the US presidency

I have already heard on the news a black leader saying that this does NOT mean America is not still fundamentally racist . . . Already they are trying to make black people the victims and keep them that way. Liberals do not want racism to end. Ever. That is one of their means of building...

    Having fun with Chrome

After trying Chrome I suddenly longed for a faster, less problematic browser than Firefox, so now I'm using Opera. It's faster and has more features built-in, and overall I honestly think it's better than firefox, but the interface is absolutely dreadful. I can say without doubt that Opera...

Is this the worst site ever?

Pretty much locked up my entire computer before I could see any content other than the title bar and a few things that looked like ads. So I can't really say how bad it really is because I don't think I technically saw it.

    Alternate keyboard layouts (dvorak, colemak)

I think there would have to be a big industry push for a new layout, and a forced obsolescence of QWERTY before it becomes practical for many of us to switch. Too bad. :(

    Alternate keyboard layouts (dvorak, colemak)

Does anyone here use them? Is there any real advantage? I do like the idea of caps-lock being replaced with a backspace (colemak). I am, in fact, using colemak right now and learning it surprisingly fast. But I'm not sure if it's really worth the effort.

An inconvienent Truth and Global warming

Watch for UFOs too hard and you'll get hit by a train. This is why people who suggest "doing something" about "global warming" are dangerous. I'm all for reducing pollution. It's very bad for health. But perhaps we should be more concerned about an ice age, which would be far more damaging...

    Digital Camera SLR or SLR-like

I'm thinking of the "Nikon AF Zoom Nikkor 18-200mm f/3.5-5.6G ED-IF AF-S DX VR II" (not sure what all that means) since it has a large range and would work great for me for a single lens (I think). But since it is upwards of $500 on ebay I think I will have to wait on it for a while. I'm really...

How about the Sigma 28-70 and 70-300 lenses? Are they good? I'm starting to sense that the lens is actually the important part on a D-SLR. :) Unfortunately I know little about lenses, so I try to read reviews. But I'm not sure if Sigma could refer to more than one type.

We have a (now fairly old) Nikon 8700 which has served us very well and still works like new after however many years it's been. What I miss about the Intel P4...

I'm not trying to argue, but I don't understand how an electric heater could be any more efficient at producing heat than anything else, unless it's a heat pump. A fan, for example, produces very little heat at all. On most space heaters, this is the only thing that could produce...

Stereo, I think "heat per watt" is actually redundant. As far as I know, one watt hour produces the same amount of heat no matter what it is used for.

    Politics 2008

Global warming is a theory and most things we try to do about it will most likely do much more harm than good (aside from simply responsibly reducing pollution). How about those who believe in it lead by example? I don't see John Edwards making any sacrifices. OTOH, George Bush's home is...

    Bible Thread

The Bible doesn't "require" anything, it simply states what many, including myself, to be truth. The issue is still that Christians should not be faulted for publishing a warning to help people avoid something terrible. Or for believing something that some others consider to be false. Maybe...

    Bible Thread

My point is that I don't believe he is "wishing" eternal torment on anyone. By definition (according to the Bible), if we do this then we are headed to the same place. If he claims to be a Christian then he will certainly claim to love all and want all people to go to heaven. That's why I think...

It's not even close to "well done." I'm afraid this reveals the ignorance that many who hate Christians have of the thing that they hate. I think it would be a fear of the unknown. We automatically tend to dislike what we do not understand. It's human nature.
