    More Vista nonsense

I've been very happy with Vista 64. Then again, I don't use much old software, I don't use hardware with poor driver support, and I enjoy tweaking settings and such to get the best possible performance. Vista's stability seems to be the exact same as 2000/XP to me: it's about 99.9% stable with...

    Music

Lately I have been really into Therion, now my favorite music group. Symphonic metal, vaguely similar to Nightwish but I find Therion to have a lot more variety between songs. They seem to be largely unknown in the US, but bigger over in Europe. Anyone else like them? If you have no idea...

    Terrestrial Engineering. Objections?

The original post from Liam included "What if we had totally polluted/destroyed/worn out/overpopulated Earth to the point where we had to find another planet and this was the only choice?" Evolution is all about the strong surviving and, in some cases, the weak dying out. It sounded like you...

    Terrestrial Engineering. Objections?

So, are you against evolution? If we are the stronger species, by rights we should dominate the lesser species to insure our survival. What do you think about owls killing rats and mice? Should we exterminate the owls so that they do not eat at the expense of other animals just because they can?

    Aprox. power usage?

Most of them just have a single drive, not heavily used. I think I see the calculator you are talking about, but it doesn't give me an estimated power usage, it just tells me which UPS I should buy.

    Aprox. power usage?

I'm trying to estimate how much power is really used by all the computers in a rack, and I'm wondering if anyone has an idea as to what a typical 1u server uses. I am aware that usage and the computer specs vary, so I am just interested in an "average", or even a range. Typical computer is a...

    Giving Up a Car

Thats funny, because while my location says Fairfax, I am actually living in McLean now and working in Rosslyn. I am looking at places as close to work as possible, for obvious reasons. I'm leaning to sharing a place at this point. I certainly could afford to get my own apartment, maybe not a...

    Giving Up a Car

It's a VW Jetta GLI. I know I pay a little more for having a V6 and such, but most of my insurance is due to my driving record. Changing cars isn't going to reduce it that much.

    Giving Up a Car

That sounds exactly like I intend to live. The way I see it, I can get along fine. It seems like most of the time I have to go places on the weekends are to care for my car, go figure. Another part of the time I'm going out with friends drinking and so I shouldn't be driving anyway. All I...

    City of Heroes Free Trial

Ahh, well being in a guild helps. Also the ease of the game at less than max level. For example, most of the instnace dungeons are designed to require a party of 5, but my warrior and my druid friend can duo most of them fine. It takes a little longer, but we get a lot more xp and loot so...

    Giving Up a Car

I have owned a car of some kind or another for the last nine years. Just recently I have been thinking of selling my current vehicle and going without. My motivation is mostly in saving money. My car payment is $370/month, my car insurance is $290/month- when you add in gas and maintenance it...

    Favorite Quotes

Sometimes, when I drive across the desert in the middle of the night, with no other cars around, I start imagining: What if there were no civilization out there? No cities, no factories, no people? And then I think: No people or factories? Then who made this car? And this highway? And I get so...

    Stealing Music the Old Way...

I signed up for one of those "buy one get 12 free" music clubs. They rip you off on shipping of course, $19 to ship my 7 "free" CDs. Still, compared to something like iTunes this is a much better deal.. it's around $2.75 per CD, and I get a real physical CD instead of just a handful of AAC...

    matrix revolutions

Matrix Revolutions looks good and all, but I can't believe how different the voice of the Oracle is. Couldn't they find someone with the same voice? An impersonator or something? It just wrecks the continuity of the series when such a major character is changed from one film to another.

    [NEWS] - X-bit reviews Seagate's Momentus 2.5" HDD

You wouldn't need an optical drive in every computer were it not for the idiotic "copy protection" schemes every game seems to have these days, where it requires you to have the CD-Rom in the computer while playing. Otherwise, you could just use an external USB 2.0 CD-Drive for installation...

Ever wanted to know the thoughts of car fans?

Yeah, I read back most of the thread, seems that Jettas are popular among storage enthusiasts. I like smaller cars, I wanted 4 doors, and torque matters to me. So after a lot of research it came down between the Jetta, the SE-R V-Spec, and the Subaru WRX. The SE-R was awesome for the price...

Nice car Tim. I bought a new car about a month ago. I testdrove a yellow SE-R Spec V just like yours, except it was a 2004. I ended up buying a Jetta though. GLI, Gray, pretty much loaded- no spoiler. Manual 6-speed of course.
