It never came to my mind to try opening a .txt with a spreadsheet, probably because a .txt should be handled by something like Word, Writer, Notepad or similar. I don't consider a basic functionality for a spreadsheet to be able to handle text documents because there's another tool better...

Ivy Bridge-EX specifications, prices, launch date, etc

I saw it. Mightily impressive. An HP DL580 G8 with 4 E7-4890v2 and 1TB of RAM should cost around 50K$ to 55K$, without the disks. A Fujitsu PrimeQuest 2800E with 8 E7-8890v2 should be approximately 100K$ (again, without the storage). That's much cheaper than a high-end RISC server.

Wow! Compare the prices I expected for the new Xeon E7-48xx v2 on November 28th 2013 with the official list prices from Intel here. I waas spot on, except for the E7-4820v2 that I missed by 1$. So, the very first place on the entire Internet to accurately list the official MSRP from Intel for...

...or I could purchase a 3-year next-business-day hardware support (HP #U6E91E) for ~160$ with the DL320e. I'll check if I can find an HP SFF desktop in which I can put two HDD in RAID 1. Ideally with a Xeon E3 v2 or v3 inside too. Thanks for the replies.

HP DL320e or HP ElitePro desktop?

I have a dilemna. I can either opt for a rackmount server or a desktop computer for a customer who doesn't need very high performing equipment. In my experience, rackmount equipment have a much lower failure rate than typical desktops. However, to fit within the allowed budget for that job, I...
